The iPod family consists of a series of portable digital audio players (DAP) designed and marketed by Apple Computer. Most models store media on a built-in hard drive, while a lower-end model called the iPod shuffle relies on flash memory. They can also serve as an external drive while connected to a computer.

Designed by Apple's Industrial Design Group under Jonathan Ive, iPods feature small size, a simple user interface designed around a central scroll wheel, and FireWire and USB 2.0 connectivity. As of October 2004, the iPod dominated digital music player sales in the United States, with over 92% of the market for hard-drive players and over 65% of the market for all types of players. Figures show that iPods have sold at a tremendous rate, faster than the Sony Walkman of the 80s and 90s, which sold an estimated 300 million units during that time. iPod so far has sold over 10 million units in a total of three years.

HiCustomer

iPods are *the* hit of the year! They are Apple Computer
Corporation's portable MP3 music players. An MP3 is a file that
stores a song on your computer, and an MP3 music player is a
device much like a walkman or a discman that plays MP3 files.

Apple is the only company which sells iPods, though you may
also find them via resellers such as MacMall (www.macmall.com)
or Tekserve (www.tekserve.com). These two retailers are my
preffered source for Macintosh and Apple products.

There are immitators to the iPod, such as Creative Lab's Zen
Micro, but there is no other product that matches the elegance
and usability of the iPod. Additionally, iPod is fully integrated
with Apple's iTunes program. iTunes is free of charge and can be
obtained for either Windows PC or Mac OS X
computers at http://www.apple.com/itunes

iPods come in several varieties. The major difference between
each type of iPod is its size and the amount of music it can hold.
The traditional iPod comes in 20 and 40 gigabyte models. That
is to say that the iPod can store 20 or 40 gigabytes of music,
which is roughly equivalent to 20 or 40 thousand songs each.
The newest iPod, the iPod Photo can hold up to 60 gigabytes of
music (approximately 60,000 songs).

The iPod Photo can also be used to store digital pictures, which
can then be displayed on a TV or other monitor, or on the built-
in 2-inch color screen. With a few hacks, it can also be used as
an external hard drive.

The two other versions of the iPod are the iPod Mini and the iPod
Shuffle.

The iPod Mini is a smaller version of the regular iPod which
holds at most 4 gigabytes of music (about 4,000 songs).

The iPod Shuffle is the smallest iPod with a maximum capacity of
1 gigabyte (1,000 songs).

Much more information can be gleaned from Apple's official web
site for iPods, at http://www.apple.com/ipod and also from the
most up-to-date unofficial source for iPod news and information
online at http://www.ipodlounge.com/ which has plenty of
supplementary information not found on the Apple site.

As a poker player myself, I can tell you that the iPod is a great
accessory to the game. Really helps you zone out and get into
the groove of things! The iPod is only really good at storing and
organizing your music on the go, but it does its job *very* well.

If you are only looking to spend $300 at the most, then the iPod
Mini is the model you want to get. Its price tag is $249,
compared to the $399 price tag of the regular iPod with a 40
gigabyte storage capacity. Despite a price tag of $299 for a
regular iPod with only 20 gigabytes of storage, I am still
recommending the mini for its slightly smaller size. Besides,
when you add up tax, the total cost will be over $300 even for
the 20 gigabyte model. The iPod Photo is even more
expensive.

The iPod Mini has up to 8 hours of batterly life fully charged,
compared to the maximum 12 of the larger-sized iPods.

The reason I am suggesting the iPod Mini over the iPod Shuffle
(which is the cheapest at only $99) is
because of its ability to organize song information on the go.
With the iPod Shuffle, you can not modify play lists or track
ratings -- its song selection is randomized and it does not have
a built-in screen. Every other model,
including the Mini does. Being able to select the music that fits
the mood will be important during the course of the Poker
game. Otherwise, it will merely be frustrating.

I hope this helps clear up the confusion about what iPods are
and helps to sufficiently guide you in your purchase. If I
have sufficiently answered your question, let me know by kindly
accepting this response. Thanks!

All the best,
-Meitar

P.S. He'll LOVE you for the iPod!!

Without seeing the E-bay ad myself it is a little hard to judge the
authenticity of the ad's claims. However, from the information
you provided it does not seem like the seller is actually selling
iPods, rather they are merely selling the possibility of, maybe,
perchance winning one for a reduced fee.

I don't know about you, but if someone told me that "maybe,
perhaps you could possibly win something" my first response
would be "That is an awful lot of maybes."

As a general rule, I do not trust anyone on Ebay not selling
something concrete because it is too easy to get caught in what
is known as a "phishing" scam on the internet. A phishing scam
is basically a trick to get you to do something (anything, not
necessarily pay money, but provide personal details like a name
or an email address or a street address) and in every case it is a
nefarious deed which you should avoid at all costs.

If you want to get an iPod Mini, you should do so from a reliable
vendor such as MacMall or Tekserve like I mentioned earlier. The
possibility of actually getting an iPod for anything less than the
retail price is very slim, and at worst you will have paid
something and gotten nothing in return.

Better to save yourself the hassle and purchase it from a source
you can trust.

Best of luck,

hey thereCustomer i just checked out your post here and i thought that i would let you in on a few things. this ebay ad that you were looking at is called "Matrix" what it is, is a pyramid scam that they send you a link and then when you go to this link you have to pay so much money to get on the pyramid and then you work you way up and once on the top you get a free gift (ipod in this case) but the thing is that you never really work your way to the top and this pyramid scam is illegal in most states.

Don't worry--you're not bugging me! I'm here to answer your
questions!

As far as the second ad goes, it certainly sounds better than the
first one. Nevertheless, you still can't know what you're getting
into when you don't buy from an authorized reseller. In the case
of this ad, they are selling a used and *broken* iPod that they
have *claimed* to fix.

I can tell you from first-hand experience that broken iPods are
not that easy to repair, and issues may linger within them even
after they are deemed "fixed," such as reduced battery life and
compatibility problems of various sorts.

Furthermore, there is no gauranteed price in which you can get
the "repaired" iPod because E-Bay is an auction site. Why would
you want to bid on a once-broken device when you don't even
know that you can get it for a good price?

My honest advice, go buy your iPod from Apple or from an
authorized reseller such as MacMall or Tekserve. Hardware is not
like software: you can not "download a new copy" or "reinstall"
some piece of software to get it to work. If your iPod doesn't
function properly, the *only* way to get your money back or get
it working is to have a warranty and a service number to call on
your reciept!

Best wishes,
-Meitar
