Customer Question

Yaesu VR-5000 CAT programming:
I am trying to read the status byte (using 4 dummy bytes + opcode E7). A value is returned but it is constant.
All other commands work fine. I can set frequency. I can change step size and select the demod mode with no problems whatsoever.
But I really need to monitor the squelch bit and the S meter value.
Is there some trick here?
Do you have a software example showing this? Any software language is okay.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do what I can to provide the right answer to your question.

This is the only code I could find that mentioned the S-Meter command (which is usually the squelch status command also, in some fashion the documentation does *not* clarify.)

http://sourcecodebrowser.com/hamlib/1.2.5/vr5000_8c_source.html

Command 0xE7 is the only status command listed, and one source says that it gets the 'sub vfo' squelch status *and* the signal status.
