05 February 2017 01:26 I have windows 10. My ultimate goal

Customer Question

05 February 2017 01:26
I have windows 10. My ultimate goal is to install IPVaish on my ASUS RT-ac3200 router with a duel set up so I can flip back and forth between masked ip address and unmasked. The printers and other devices don't need ipvanish either but one other 1 other laptop does. Just as a side note, my firestick tv is already connected to ipvanish. I'd want to know how I'd handle that if I put ip vanish on the router. In order to put Ipvanish on the router I understand I need to put tomato on my router. I think I have the right file downloaded but I'd like to start from scratch. I need help installing tomato on my router, and then getting ip vanish set up. Maybe it's two questions?

How far have you gotten in this setup? Have you already installed Tomato on the router?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No. I didn't get tomato installed. i think i got close but i ended up restoring my router back to factory and start over with someone that knows what they are doing. i'd be happy to pay the 40 and get you connected but im not sure that this is something you could help remotely is it?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

That is something that I won't be able to do remotely. What problem did you have when you flashed it earlier?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
i couldnt get to the log in page. i had the router unhooked from the modem because I was following these directions:https://moonlightknighthk.wordpress.com/2012/02/04/install-tomato-firmware-on-asus-router/
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

Okay. While you were connected to the router with a network cable, which IP address were you getting on the computer?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
im not sure. i did do that static ip address that the guy gave instructions on but now I've completely reverted back to the beginning an i need someone to help start over
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

Okay. Which static IP did you give the PC?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
i changed it back to automatic or whatever now. but i had changed it to what those directions i sent you said
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

Okay. Let's walk through the steps again.

Get to the point where you were at earlier. Flash the router and let me know when it is complete.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
can we do this tomorrow?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

We can do this anytime between 8am and 8pm (PST) any day of the week.

what's your opinion of tomato vs ddwrt or whatever?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

I prefer DD-WRT over Tomato, any day.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
why is that? there's some directions i got from ipvanish that tells me how to use ddwrt.
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 4 months ago.

DD-WRT is more readily supported and you can do a lot more with DD-WRT. I would suggest using DD-WRT.

To get your router updated, we'll need to make a change to the "CA Cert" text field on your router. We have a tutorial you can follow here: https://www.ipvanish.com/visualguides/OpenVPN/DD-WRT/ (https://www.ipvanish.com/visualguides/OpenVPN/DD-WRT/)On slide 9, you'll find the "CA Cert" text field: you'll want to replace all text in the box with the new certificate found here: http://www.ipvanish.com/software/configs/guideCRT.txt (http://www.ipvanish.com/software/configs/guideCRT.txt)Copy and paste the entirety of the text, including the BEGIN and END CERTIFICATE fields.Commit the changes by clicking the Save button, and you're set!
