Hello
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

In order for the Ethostream device to share the Internet with other devices, you need to connect the LAN cable from the modem to any available LAN port on Ethostream device.

Please do that and let me know if the Internet is available through Ethostream.

Thanks,

IT Miro

In order to provide the correct information for you, please type the model of the Ethostream device you are using. Or, let me know what ports you see on the back of the Ethostream device.

I plugged my laptop into the wan port and no connection
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

Thanks for the information!

Since you have a modem, you need to plug a LAN cable from the modem into a LAN port on Ethostream Egs4, not into WAN.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
That is done
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
should the second white that comes out of ethostresm box be in the wan port
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

Are you referring to the PoE cable or something else?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The Poe cable
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

You can connect it to a LAN port as well.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
There isn't another lan port
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

Sorry for the confusion. To confirm, you want to connect Ethostream Egs4 only with your modem, or there are other network devices involved?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Just the modem and the Poe switch that controls the wireless router, the router is programmed to only work with ethostream
Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

In that case, connect the devices like this:

Connect one end of a first LAN (Ethernet) cable into your modem, and the other end into the PoE switch (into the POE or Power port or anything labeled similar to that). Use a second LAN cable and connect one end into the PoE switch (into the LAN port or Data or anything labeled similar to that), and the other end into the LAN port of the Ethostream Egs4.

That will allow the Ethostream Egs4 to be both powered and connected with your modem.

Expert:  IT Miro replied 2 months ago.

Connecting the modem and Ethostream Egs4 the way I described will provide the Internet access to Ethostream Egs4, but your modem will control the Internet connection. If you want the Ethostream Egs4 to control the Internet connection instead, then connect the other end of the second Ethernet cable into the WAN port of the Ethostream Egs4. You can then use the LAN port on Ethostream Egs4 for connecting another device, such as a wireless router.

I believe this is the setup you are dealing with.

Let me know if the connection works by connecting the devices this way.
