I cannot connect to the internet on my iPhone 5. I called

Customer Question

I cannot connect to the internet on my iPhone 5. I called the cable company, and they checked my router to see that I had an internet connection on my computer. I did not, so they reset the connection on my modem.
The technician said that there seems to be a problem with my netgear router. I need help with this problem.
When the router is on, the blue lights are on , but they are circiling somewhat erratically. There is no green light on in the center of the router.
Please help.

Hi there and welcome John

How are you now getting internet to talk to me?

Via which device?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Through my computer.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Ok, on the iPhone, what is the error you receive?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Although my settings say that the phone is connected to Netgear, I do not get an internet connection. I cannot, for example, use Safari to search on the Internet.

ok, can you hold the home and power buttons on the iPhone until you see an Apple Logo then release.

let the iPhone restart and when it has, try then to access the internet

Let me know the results please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Should I turn the phone back on or wait until it starts? I saw the Apple logo, but now the screen is blank.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

When you see the logo, release the buttons and give it some time to restart please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
BTW, the provider told me to unplug the router cable from the router and to plug it into the computer. I guess that was so she could check to see if the router was the problem.I do have the internet connection on the iPhone.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok, so phone is now working correct?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
but in Setting it shows that there is no wi-fi connection. So the Netgear router is not involved in the connection?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

No, so connect it to the wifi network and then test if it now works

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Disconnect the router cable from the computer and reconnect it to the router?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I see: the messages are identical to what your responses are on the computer conversation.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Sorry? I do not understand your reply here...

Can you clarify please what you are saying?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It seems that the problem is with the router. When I reconnected the router cable (one end connected to the modem) to the router as you suggested, I no longer had internet service. The whole point of the router is that I want internet service throughout my house, which has been the case until now. So the router needs to be fixed. How do I do that?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok, power off the router and wait 10 minutes.

Then power on the router and tell me if it now gives internet access please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Okay. i powered it off using the power button on the back. I'll wait 10 minutes. Should I disconnect the router cable from my computer?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

when you test it all needs to be connected correctly

So a LAN port on the Netgear (any of the four) will need to connect to the internet port on the modem.

Then test if it now gives you internet please
