I am trying to setup my N600 range extender but when I click on wi fi it does not come up

Can you while the range extender is powered on, hold the reset button on it for 10 seconds then release.

Once done, then try to set it up again and tell me please if you can then see it.

ok, in order to set this up, you first need to connect to it with a network cable via the computer, then enable it and then you can set it up.

I dont think you have done this step yet?

I dont believe your Macbook has a port for a network cable so you will need to use a computer that has.

Once its setup then you can see the SSID for it.

Its in order to click the Get Started button on the interface.

We only have macbook air and macbook pro so neither has a port for a network cable.

ok, and please do not shoot the messenger, but this extender requires one just for setup.

So you need to lend a computer that has a Ethernet port and connect and set it up as per the guide I gave.

Once done you wont need it again it is just for this setup. But this you cannot get around sorry with this device.
