so the Hawking Tech HOW2R has a eithernet port?
for direct connection
your not using wireless?
It picks up the signal from the main router wirelessly, but has is POE powered, so I attach the camera to the POE feeder
power over eithernet?
so what are you connecting to the cam?
what type of wire
CAT 6 ethernet cable
are you able to log into the Hawking Tech HOW2R?
i've never used one
so im doing basic troubleshooting here
This is miles away from being basic, believe me
I can connect to the hawking with my laptop
we want to see if that repeater sees it
can you log in, and look at connections, or the log -
so the ethernet port is working OK
if you connect your laptop, with wireless off to the Hawking Tech HOW2R, and wire it in
do you get access?
I can connect wirelessly to the Hawking with the laptop
And i can connect wired to the Hawking with the laptop
maybe the log can give me some info
on what is the exact proccess that the camera goes throught when it connects to the Hawking
well, assuming its like any IP device......
like a computer
it asks for a IP adress
the Hawking Tech HOW2R leases it an IP address.
and its on that network.
that is the way it should work
if it doesnt, something is wrong.
the most strange thing is that in one, just one occasion I get the Hawking to see my camera
but even oit it does, since there are two networks, we may have to look at all devices.
thats why i wanted you to try your laptop on the Hawking Tech HOW2R with wifi off.
inplace of the cammera
the laptop works
if you get online with it, we know its like;ly not the Hawking Tech HOW2R.
but via the Hawking Tech HOW2R? wired in, wifi off?
i disable the network adapter on my laptop and connect it using an ethernet cable to the hawking
and i´ve got access to internet
but it does not work in the same fashion with the camera
so I´ve got so far
the camera is not malfunctioning cause i can get my main router to see it
the hawking is also working cause it provides internet to the wired laptop
ok. and thats with your WIFI off?
if wifi is on, it will jump to other router.
I disabled the network adapter
so not a chance to connect wirelessly
any further ideas?
something I could try?
did you look at logs?
there may be an ipclonflict.
meaning two dvices are using smae IP
so, we cna look at logs. or shut down all but your laptop and the cam
so, cell phones off
TV unplugged if it uses internet
cable TV off if it uses it
then reboot both routers, and then the cammera
I think that could be the culprit
is there an error that comes up on the cammera?
Hawking is trying to assign the same ip to different devices
you usually see an error though
for sure in logs
that would do it.
may need to reset the Hawking Tech HOW2R to defualt -
and reset it up
if that camera is trying to get an ip a phone has.....
it wont do a thing
Did a factory reset already but will try again
So to make things clear
a camera works exactly as a laptop when connected to the hawking, isn´t it?
it asks for an ip to the Hawking
and gets connected to the subnet that the hawking creates
am i right?
its just a device asking for an IP to that subnet
same as a phone, TV, xbox, or a PC
whats newer the cam or the Hawking Tech HOW2R?
the hawking has always worked fine
have you contacted them to see if there are any known issues?
the cam ppl
will do if necessary
i think either the Hawking Tech HOW2R is gettign ipconflicts
or there is either somethingh wrong witht he cam, or it needs an odd ball set up.
but as a rule of thumg, when you add in something new, and an issue comes up 99% of the time its the new thing....
but how come I was once able to make it work?
that was inside, correct?
but I have not been able to reproduce it
so it worked on the Hawking Tech HOW2R at one point?
I was once able to make the camera work with the HAwking
but when I disconnected and connected again it was gone
any firmware updates?
to either device?
so I know positively it works
both the camera and the hawking run on the latest fw
but did u upgrade, since they worked?
i guess im sugesting, maybe a firmware update broke one of them.
the camera came with the latest
and I did a fw upgrade on the Hawking
we're thinking about any changes that were made.
not sure If I made it work before of after
did it stop working after the update?
I dont think so cause I updated the fw software due to not been able to make it work
and t hen it worked.
well, thats kind of a sign it never really worked great with it -
the update may have helped, but didint do the trick.
if they patched it in, they got reports on it.
unplug the Hawking Tech HOW2R
power off cammera, if it has a battery, take it out.
plug the Hawking Tech HOW2R back in, turn it on. Then the Cammera.
whats going to be not fun is if you have to call the cam place, you may need a manager.....i, sure as most level 1 techs do, go by white pages......try this, etc......and unless this is a well known issue, you wont get far with the guy that picks the line up.
does the cammera have a network settings?
make sure its set to DHCP
yeah i´m afraid thats gonna happen
and see if you can find if it has an IP adress
then you can try and ping it from your laptop.
I can change any parameter on the camera while it is connected to the main router
cause i´ve got access to it
oh, ok so it doesnt have an LCD.
the main router assigns the camera an ip inmediately
as the hawking should do
can you set the cammera to defaults?
maybe the cammera is stuck on dumb
and is looking for the ip from other router
I´ll try that as well
It does not have a reset button but i guess i could do it by software
did you just plug it in and it worked?
or did you assign it an ip?
when i plug the camera into the main router it gets assigned an ip dinamically
I have to do nothing else to make it work
just plug it in
that lets my know the camera indeed works
i´m gonna hard reset both devices
and then connect the hawking then the camera
i'm stepping away for 10 min
is that ok?
and check the log afterwards to see what i can find out
it is ok to leave for good
unless you need me here
please leave feed back -
i'm moving this to q & a.
so we can still talk for free.
Hi Just got it fixed now. Connected the camera to the laptop and was able to assing it an static IP OUTSIDE the range that the Hawking has set to DHCP devices. Then connected the camera to the Hawking and voila!! it did recognized the camera as having that static IP. Appreciate your help.
Yes, camera is working fine.
