it does not read the netgear device. it tells me nothing is connected

what cable are you using between the router and your laptop?
the netgear device uses a USB for power & an ethernet cable. my router is wireless

there are no lights on the ethernet port on my laptop. do you mean the lights on my router? the netgear device is connected to my laptop, not the router. do i need to be where i can see my router?

i'm back; it didn't work.......
what was the IP address that you received?
the first time i tried i had a green wlan.....took a long time to get green lan. finally came on, but laptop did not recognize connection. unplugged netgear, plugged back in, & tried again. now have red wlan light again
is my netgear device bad? i have had trouble with it since i bought it
because you need the LAN light to be on in order to configure it
side note; wlan is red, lan is occasionally blinking green now
if it's blinking green then you should be able to connect to it

sorry i took so long. here's the deal:
my computer is not recognizing that the netgear is even connected to it
i ran the troubleshooter & it said there was nothing plugged in to the ethernet port
