Im sharing two webservers on different static IPs on a single

Resolved Question:

I'm sharing two webservers on different static IP's on a single ZyXEL PK5001Z. When I browse the LAN I get the proper IIS site on HOST2. When I browse the WAN I get the default IIS site on HOST1. I have a ".pdf" file with screen shots of sessions and pages from router home page.

Can you tell me if this is a matter of ZyXEL PK5001Z settings, IIS site configurations, or both?

Kamil Anwar :

Hello & Welcome to JustAnswer – My name isXXXXX and I will be assisting you with your question today.

Kamil Anwar :

Can you send me the PDF

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, I will be happy to do that, kamil. How do I accomplish that?

Kamil Anwar :

Thanks

Kamil Anwar :

You can upload it to www.wikisend.com and send me the link to download it.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes. I will do that, now.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

File is uploading, now. Please stand by.

Kamil Anwar :

No worries

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I have a 640 Kbps upstream from the top of a mountain in Colorado.

Kamil Anwar :

The speed is fine from a mountain :)

Kamil Anwar :

It's not letting me download this file, can you zip the file and re-upload.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, I will do that, now. Please stand by.

Kamil Anwar :

Thanks

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Self-extracting zip file now uploading.

Kamil Anwar :

What is your public IP?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

DANGEROUS URL REMOVED

Kamil Anwar :

Is it uploaded to wikisend?

Kamil Anwar :

URL is masked by this site's system so i can't see it.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Public IP is 71.33.241.12
upload was to wikisend. I will attempt another service and get right back to you. Please stand by.

Kamil Anwar :

wikisend should have a number like 266815 after /download in the link

Kamil Anwar :

If you can give me the number i'll still be able to download it

Kamil Anwar :

Why is it .exe?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Does that help?

Kamil Anwar :

Still cannot see and it has .exe

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I see. they are blocking a ".exe". OK, I will create just a zip. Please stand by.

Kamil Anwar :

It should be .zip or .rar

Kamil Anwar :

Ok

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Now uploading ".zip".

Kamil Anwar :

While it's uploading, we can speak on the issue.

Kamil Anwar :

How many public IPs do you have ?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I have a block beginning at 71.33.241.0. User-assignable are 71.33.241.1 through 71.33.241.13. Reserved Gateway is 71.33.241.14. Reserved broadcast is 71.33.241.15. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.240.

Kamil Anwar :

If you go to getip.com what IP does that returns?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

71.33.241.1 on HOST1
71.33.241.3 on HOST2
71.33.241.12 on my laptop

Kamil Anwar :

Give me few minutes to look up please

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Thank you

Kamil Anwar :

What is your post code

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

81432

Kamil Anwar :

What are the nat options on this router?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

That is an area where I have no knowledge. Just a moment, I will open up the router home page and take some shots.

Kamil Anwar :

Thanks

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Under "Security" on the ZyXEL PK5001Z home page, there is a link, entitled "NAT". All I see there is that it's enabled.

Kamil Anwar :

The problem is NAT here.

Kamil Anwar :

You have 13 use able addresses (71.33.241.1 - 71.33.241.14)

Kamil Anwar :

The router needs to do one to one nat here

Kamil Anwar :

When you access internally how do you access it?

Kamil Anwar :

By opening public ip?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

There is a heading under "Routing", entitled "Static Routing" that allows entry of destination IP, subnet mask, and gateway IP.

Kamil Anwar :

That is something else

Kamil Anwar :

Can you go to Advanced

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

When I view "4cadventure.com" from the IE browser, I'm simply connected via Ethernet with WiFi turned off.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Those settings on the PK5001Z are under "Advanced".

Kamil Anwar :

Select "DMZ Hosting".

Kamil Anwar :

Click Enable

Kamil Anwar :

Select a device, or manually enter an IP address (what devices are listed)?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

ok. standby

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I see:
HOST1
71.33.241.2
71.33.241.3
71.33.241.12

Kamil Anwar :

Can you add Host1 and 3

Kamil Anwar :

to DMZ

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

attempting, now

Kamil Anwar :

Thanks

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

It allowed me to select "HOST1".
When I attempt "71.33.241.3", I get the message, "A device is already placed in the DMZ. Remove the current DMZ device to add a new device.".

Kamil Anwar :

remove host1 and add 3

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

attempting, now

Kamil Anwar :

Thanks

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

It is now listing "71.33.241.3" as a DMZ Hosted Device.

Kamil Anwar :

Can you create a test.txt file with some text in the www directory

Kamil Anwar :

on both servers

Kamil Anwar :

in server1, put server1 in test.txt for server1 and put server2 in test.txt for server2

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Will do. Please stand by.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Done. I put HOST1 and HOST2 with their IP's.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I see 4cadventure.com is now resolving.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Oops, I forgot that I'm on the LAN. Sorry!

Kamil Anwar :

How are you accessing it on lan through the public ip or domain name?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

http://71.33.241.3/4cA gives

500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

http://4cadventure.com/ resolves to site.

Kamil Anwar :

The website is setup on .3 right?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

yes

Kamil Anwar :

Can you turn off .1 or disconnect it

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, pulling cable, now.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Disconnected 71.33.241.1

Kamil Anwar :

When you access it internally using it's ip it gives error and when you access it using the domain it resolves

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

correct

Kamil Anwar :

Can you physically describe how the modem and servers are hooked up

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Phone line into PK5001Z
Blue Cat5 from PK5001Z to HOST1

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Black/silver cat5 from PK5001Z to WDSENTINEL
Black cat5 fromPK5001Z to HOST2

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

yellow cat5 from PK5001Z to laptop

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

1) HOST1
2) WDSENTINEL
3) HOST2
4) laptop

Kamil Anwar :

Can you still access .3 ?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Windows 7 Pro IIS running on HOST1 and HOST2

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Seeing site index page through browser for .3
You should probably see IIS default welcome from yours for 4cadventure.com

Kamil Anwar :

At first, both the .3 and .1 were taking me to .1

Kamil Anwar :

Now since .1 is turned off .3 is not responding

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, from .1
I was not getting to .3

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Correct, so would not now see IIS default welcome

Kamil Anwar :

Yes - So now when you access .3 is it taking you .3 ?

Kamil Anwar :

Using the ip and domain both

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

yes

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

just the domain, not the IP

Kamil Anwar :

Can you remove .3 from the dmz zone

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

The IP takes me to the default IIS welcome on .3,
but 71.33.241.3/4cA gives the error

Kamil Anwar :

/4cA ?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Removing .3 fro DMZ, now. Please stand by

Kamil Anwar :

What is 4cA?

Kamil Anwar :

A directory ?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

A directory, yes

Kamil Anwar :

Oh so that internal error could be the configuration on IIS

Kamil Anwar :

The IP takes you to the default IIS?

Kamil Anwar :

The domain takes you to the actual site?

Kamil Anwar :

From outside neither .3 nor the domain is accessible.

Kamil Anwar :

Can you check if port 80 is opened?

Kamil Anwar :

I see it says "Port 80 is closed on 71.33.241.3."

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

.3 removed from DMZ

Yes, the Internal Server Error is at least telling me I have another problem with the IIS configuration for the site.
71.33.241.3 takes me to the default IIS welcome page
4cadventure.com takes me to the site index page

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

do I check the port forwarding for 80 on 71.33.241.3 through the home page of the router?

Kamil Anwar :

So that because 4cadventure.com is setup as a site/domain on IIS and has a different directory to what the root of the IIS has

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, the path in the Basic setting for the IIS site shows inetpub/wwwroot/4cA

Kamil Anwar :

71.33.241.3 has a different directory and it's probably the root directory.

Kamil Anwar :

Two places to confirm ports:

Kamil Anwar :

Windows Firewall and the Router

Kamil Anwar :

On windows firewall add any any inbound/outbound for 80

Kamil Anwar :

and on router forward 80 to .3

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Just attempted to add 80 to .3 on router and got "The defined port or port range is in use by another port forwarding or applications rule."
Now checking firewall on .3 (NORTON)

Kamil Anwar :

We are progressing now, can you see where the 80 is forwarded to it should be there, delete other rules and forward and just do a forward to .3

Kamil Anwar :

Disable Norton

Kamil Anwar :

and check windows firewall for 80

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

I have disabled NORTON. Windows firewall isn't responding. I suspect I would have to uninstall NORTON.

Kamil Anwar :

Yes

Kamil Anwar :

Let's try that port is still closed

Kamil Anwar :

But first check where the port is forwarded to on the router

Kamil Anwar :

Since it says already in use

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

OK, uninstalling NORTON. Please sant by.

Kamil Anwar :

Ok - After uninstalling this, please check on router where 80 is being used or if there is any other rule added?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

ok

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

NORTON un-installed. Re-starting HOST2.

Kamil Anwar :

Ok

Kamil Anwar :

Is Host1 on again?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

yes

Kamil Anwar :

It should be off

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

ok, HOST1 off, HOST2 on and up.

Kamil Anwar :

Now check the router

Kamil Anwar :

See if there is any rule created to forward ports ?

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Yes, 71.33.241.1 has 80 forwarded, as well as many others.

Kamil Anwar :

Can you send a screenshot

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

will do.

Kamil Anwar :

Delete the 80 one

Kamil Anwar :

Delete the one which says 80

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

deleted

Kamil Anwar :

refresh and ensure its not there

Kamil Anwar :

Congratulations :)

Kamil Anwar :

Site is accessible

Kamil Anwar :

Congrats :0

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Checking from my mobile wireless

Kamil Anwar :

Sure

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX for you assistance and expertise, my friend!

Kamil Anwar :

The problem was that everything was forwarded to .1

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

The site is showing up, perfectly on my cell phone, which is on the WAN.

Kamil Anwar :

And now, you can see 80 is not forwarded anywhere but it's still accessible.

Kamil Anwar :

So you need to delete all the rules

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

Oh, I see. I will delete them all. Excellent.

Kamil Anwar :

and just work on your machines, they should work since they are setup with static IP

Kamil Anwar :

Great. In future, if you have any questions, you can ask me by putting my name in question and if you can take a minute to rate me that will be appreciated.

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

You bet. You're very knowledgeable! I will seek your assistance, again, when needed.
Appreciatively,

JACUSTOMER-sm4lcw3h- :

David

Kamil Anwar :

You're welcome. You can click on the smiley icon to rate me.

Kamil Anwar :

I will go out now. Take Care David and Best of Luck.

Since gaining access to www.4cadventure.com from our previous session, I'm now unable to access www.montrosevisualartsguild.org or www.ouraymed.com at their IIS sites on 71.33.241.1 (HOST1).

Would you have an idea what I should do?

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.

Is HOST1 up?

I am not able to access http://www.4cadventure.com/ even.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Yes, HOST1 is running and I'm viewing www.montrosevisualartsguild.org and www.ouraymed.com from the LAN, as was the previous case with www.4cadventure.com, but in reverse.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
Can you turn Host1 off - Because from outside, i cannot access http://www.4cadventure.com/ which we setup to work.

Also did you make any changes to anything?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Yes, I just noticed it's gone, also. All I did, since we visited was to uninstall NORTON from HOST1, as well.

Turning off HOST1.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I uninstalled NORTON from HOST1. It's now turned off.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
I still cannot access 4cadventure.com - Something else must have changed.
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
Any changes made to the router?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

None, since I deleted all the port forwarding.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.

Can you send me screenshot of port-forwarding?

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
Place Host2 in DMZ zone.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I'm surprised to see it's already there. I thought we removed it, before. Should I remove it, now?

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
Yes remove it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

DMZ state is now showing empty and disabled.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
Please restart the router now.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

NAT is on

Checking yougetsignal

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 1 year ago.
It's clear that something unusual has happened. I know that with these routers there are not much options to debug unlike with proper firewalls where you specify 1:1 mapping of public to internal.

Can you send me the screenshot for the firewall table?
