Do you know how to log in to your wireless router to find the password?

Every wireless router has an admin page to log in to. As long as who ever set it up left it to the default username and password XXXXX can get in

What kind of Wireless router do you have. I need the Make and Model please

cisco model #wrt120n

Ok what Operating system are you using on your computer?

Customer:

i don't know. i'm not computer smart

Is this windows or mac?

I need to know what IP address the router is on. But we need to look in your computer for that info

jstinehelfer :

click the start button and in the search box type CMD and press enter on the keyboard. A black window should open up.

jstinehelfer :

Then I need you to type IPCONFIG and press enter again

jstinehelfer :

you should see IP Address, Subnet, and Gateway. We need the Gateway address

jstinehelfer :

Usually is can be 192.168.1.1

we need to verify that

Now to get to the admin page of the router we need to go to that address. Give me a moment to look up the default username and password XXXXX quick

yes but i have a different computer now

Ok we need to go to the web admin page http://192.168.1.1 <click here to go there

but my wifi worked fine until aug 4 13

still did not work

Ok who ever set up the router changed it then

would they remember the password?

Either we get the password XXXXX reset the router back to factory default. But you will need to know how to setup the router again if you do that

i have my password XXXXX down but it does not work. i have a security #

the password XXXXX get in the admin page is a different password XXXXX for your wireless password.

they are stored in different places in the router

so you have some weird long numbers for the wireless password?

ok did you try that for the admin page?

not yet

try it with admin as the username and try it with no username we have to get in to the router

no good either way

did you try to reboot the router and try joining it with the password XXXXX have?

i will

just pull the power plug out the back. give it 30 seconds then plug it back in. You will loose Internet for 2-5 min while it is restarting. Just stay on this page and it will reconnect when the router restarts

i think we did it
