I am here to help you with this issue
On your laptop please go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > then click command prompt
in the black window, type:ipconfig
tell me your ipv4 ip address and gateway
so you should be able to open a new browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
to log into your router
Were you able to access the router?
Yes, I know quite a bit about computers, do you can go a lot quicker if you want. It's just this that I can't get working.
get this working*
So you're original request was to get into the router
said you had some flashing lights
On my range extender
not my router.
My router works fine.
Ok, I understand now
one sec please.
Reading the instructions I see that it's asking you to connect a cable from the extender to your PC
when you tried that, did you disconnect from all other networks
including wireless and wired?
I did. I could try again, but that would disconnect me from this. Will I be able to access this chat again if I disconnect to try again?
One sec before you do that
Are you set to obtain IP addresses automatically?
Ok, so when you go, and after you connect the extender to your computer
do a ipconfig /release
then a ipconfig /renew
in a command prompt
Alright, is that all?
then try to access that site
yes, when you regain internet access, we'll be reconnected
It still did not work.
Has this extender ever worked?
I just got it.
Is there a reset button on the back of it
Yes, I have reset it twice already.
Ok, just checking...
manual says hold for 10 seconds
then the lights will flash...
It's flashing blue
solid lights right?
It's alternating blue/amber.
when you connected to it, did it give you an IP address?
It hasn't done anything except flash the lights.
I mean, when you connect it and do an IP config, it should give you some kind of IP address
I know you wont have internet
but you should get a 192.168.X.X
When I did release, I got a lot of errors
"No operation can be performed..."
Oh, you need to run as administrator
run the command prompt in an elevated state
Alright, now or when I'm disconnected?
Let's test it now
open it as an administrator
then do an ipconfig /release
then ipconfig /renew
you'll be disconnected and then reconnected
you did not disconnect...
did it give you the same errors?
No, it gave me a lot of information. I saw the little triangle pop up on my wireless bars.
and you didnt see that before right?
No, that was after I did the ipconfig/release
disconnect from any wireless, connect your extender
ipconfig release then renew
check to see if you have an IP address
then try to get to that site
you should get an IP from that extender, if not you cant log in
Says "No operation can be performed..." still
even with the command prompt as administrator?
alright, we can do that another way
open the network and sharing center
then click Change adapter settings
on the left
You'll see your local area connection
and you can right-click to disable and enable
It was already disabled.
alright, well let's enable that
and then try to connect your extender and access it
Sorry, when I tried to refresh the page, it took me to the belkin range page.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX works.
