Windows Vista unable to connect to Wifi network with new router D-Link DIR-825, says local access only
Hi and thanks for choosing Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will be happy to assist you.We may need to update the driver on the Vista computer. Could you do the following for me please?
Thanks!
Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Sorry for the delay. OK we want to update the Atheros first to see if that corrects the issue. Here is what I want you to do:
After a while trying to install the driver it failed and I was unable to see any network, I had to reset the computer to activate my network device again (I'm currently connected to an unsecured network)
Still cannot connect to my secured network
That is odd, the driver install should not have failed. Do you by any chance remember the error you got? Also, on the D-Link, which wireless encryption are you using to secure the network? You may need to bump it down to WPA if you are using WPA2 in order to get the older card to work.
No error number or whatever, it just said that it hasnt been installed...!
I tried already turning into WPA but the network was not working because it said the parameters were not ok
It said that on the Vista computer? About the parameters not being correct? We can fix that if so.
yes on the Vista computer, right now the network that I cant connect to is a WPA2 Personnal, if I change those settings the network will have a red X right to his name.
I can connect to my secured network, but when I open my browser I dont have any connexion it says local only
OK let's change the network to WPA only and then do this on the Vista computer:
Next your must reconnect to your network using the correct information.
1. Right click the network icon in your system tray next to your clock (it looks like two monitors on top of each other) and choose Connect to a Network.
2. A list of available networks should appear and you should your network name in the list.
3. Highlight your network and click Connect.
4. If prompted, type in your password XXXXX click OK.
5. After a moment you should be connected.
Now that you are properly connected to the WPA network, can you get online, or is it the same error (Local Access Only)?
I did everything but still cant connect to the network with WPA, I can only connect when WPA2 Personnal with the same local only error
OK what happens now when you try to connect with WPA? Do you get an error message?
,I can connect to any other network but not to this one
Yes there is a red X right to the network's name and I cant connect to it
OK did you follow the second set of instructions? The red X is there because there are some settings on the Vista laptop that need to be deleted. Here are the instructions:
That should then allow you to at least try to join the network (no red X). Once you do that please let me know if you can at least try to join the WPA network.
Ok now it seems to work and honestly dont really know why haha, the network is still in WPA2 but everything is working !?
Heh sometimes I love computers. Did you remove the network and then readd it or did it just start working on its own?
Removed it, but I did it two times before and didnt work, the third time did work !
Thx
