How do i change my WEP password XXXXX my linksys router?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows Vista Browser: IE Already Tried: connecting to 192.168.1.1, then it continuously asks for my user name: I put in admin and then it repeatedly asks me to change my password
Hi and thanks for choosing Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will be happy to assist you.You are part of the way there. When you connect to 192.168.1.1 and get prompted for a username and password, please leave the username field empty and type admin for the password. Does that get you in or does it prompt you again?
It just takes me back to user settings again to repeat the whole process of changing the password
OK can you cancel out of that process? If not, can you tell me what model router you have there?
Everytime I put in the URL address it takes me back to the reset password XXXXX My router is: LinkSys Wireless-N
This is a little strange as that model doesn't usually have a password XXXXX page. Are you hooked to the Linksys with a cable or are you trying to access it wirelessly?
Right now I'm hooked with a cable, but I do not know if that overrides the wireless portion?
Yes it does. OK please do this for me so I can make sure we have all our info correct:

Ah OK. The problem is that 192.168.1.1 is actually the address of your Westell box, not your Linksys box. Please use 192.168.2.1 instead, leave the username empty and type admin for the password. Does that get you into the Linksys?
Yes, it got me to the LinkSys page.
Excellent, now you want to click on the tab that says Wireless. When you do that the screen will change and a row of subtabs will appear. Click the Wireless Security subtab. The screen will change again and you will see the space to change your WEP key (or WPA passphrase if you are using WPA). Just fill in the new information and then click Save Settings.PLEASE NOTE: when you click Save Settings, all wireless devices and computers will be disconnected from the wireless network and you will need to rejoin them to your network using the new key or passphrase. Please let me know if you have any trouble by clicking the Reply to Expert link. I will be here if needed. Thanks so much!
