I bought a att/netgear ADSL2+router that accepted my Apple MacBook Pro easily, but am having trouble getting my HP Pavilion (windows vista) to accept the wireless signal. What am I doing wrong with the set-up. Works fine if I attach the ethernet cable, but no wireless without it.
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows Vista Browser: Other Already Tried: I've tried following the instructions given me in my computer. It says I have a strong signal, but when disconnected from the ethernet cable it fails, though telling me the signal is good.
Hi,Can you try:Please click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Manage, then click on Device manager, then open/expand Network adapters and right-click on each of the items under it and click on Uninstall and confirm. Then restart the computer. Please click on Start->All Programs->Accessories, then right-click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator. Then type each of the command lines below, one line at a time, and press the Enter key each time:netsh winsock resetipconfig /releaseipconfig /flushdnsnetsh int ip reset netshlog.txtThen restart the computer and check. Is there any error message when connecting the hp computer to your wireless network name? Please let me know. Thank you.
still nothing, I don't understand the instructions that are in my windows network diagnostics box which say to plug a cable into the network adapter "local area connection". What the heck does that mean???
Were you able to try all my suggestions successfully, but it did not work? When you click on the wireless/network icon at the bottom right of the computer screen, what happens when you select your wireless network name and connect? Does it give any error message?Thank you.
No, there is no error message. It says connected with full bars of power. But when I try to get on internet I get nothing but "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and it leads me to diagnose connection problems, which I don't seem to have, as I have excellent coverage. Again, what is this local area connection they try to lead me to?
Local are connection is for wired connection only, so it won't help. Were you stuck at any of my steps previously? What's the exact model of your HP computer? Can you click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Properties, then check if your System type: is 32-bit or 64-bit?Thank you.Viet - Network Tech41096.0387327894

Can you download and update the BIOS and network/wireless driver(s) at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3380544#N833Thank you.
I tried entering that ridiculously long information twice & was told twice no such address
Please do not type/enter. Please just click on the website:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3380544#N833Thank you.
Listen, I'm doing all this back & forth with you on my Mac not my HP. What good is all this if I'm not on the correct computer to begin with??
Sorry, can you connect the hp computer to the router with an ethernet/network cable? Can you try this shorter website on the HP computer:http://tinyurl.com/86ypecsThank you.
All I was led to was another 40.00 fee for some kind of download of RegCleaner. I'm not going to spend anymore money on this. So far I've gotten nothing for the money & time I've spent with you. Thanks, but no thanks
That is strange. It should not ask for any money; the downloads are free from the hp website. What exactly happens when you click on the website http://tinyurl.com/86ypecs ?Thank you.
#1 I could not get that exact site, only could get http://tinyurl.com, would not accept the /86ypecs part of the address you gave me. #2 The site I could get wanted me to choose a USD 38.97 one year subscription
It's very strange. I can click on the website http://tinyurl.com/86ypecs fine on my computer. Can you click on the website http://tinyurl.com/86ypecs on the Mac computer (don't type, just click on it)?And/or can just go to the HP website http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html and enter your model?Thank you.
I'm not sure what this website is going to do for my problem, but thanks for trying to help me. Maybe I'll just forget about this hp computer.
You would enter your hp model at that website to download the bios and wireless driver.And/or you can back up your files, then turn off the hp computer, then turn it back on, then press the key F11 when the computer logo appears on the screen in order to do a factory restore. Thanks.
