I can't access any yahoo site, including my yahoo mail. I have tried on all my PCs on the network and all the same. I have changed DNS on my router, no change. I have phoned my ISP and they say a number of customers are having the same problem and that I should contact yahoo, however i can not access ANY yahoo site to tell them about it - I can ping yahoo.com fine from a command prompt but all PCs/browsers from within my network time out while trying to reach yahoo.com - it's a big problem as my business email comes through yahoo so I'm losing business. Please help!
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: Mozilla Already Tried: restarted router/switches/PCS. Changed DNS. Contacted ISP. Every PC on my network has the same issue and it only affects yahoo.com all other sites are fine.
Hi there, and welcome to JustAnswer, I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.
Can you open Internet Explorer (I see you use Firefox) and try please
tell me if you still cant
Yes, have IE open now
not able to access yahoo.com, yahoo.co.uk etc
ok, sound like a possible virus
have you run a full virus scan?
yes and it is the same on all pcs on the network
are they connecting through a server?
proxy?
connected through router - all other sites working
have you powered the router off and on?
yes
whats the touer connect to?
router*
to my dsl connection - it is otherwise fine, speed is good, am getting every other site, can ping yahoo.com but can't get site up
ok, can you connect a computer direct to DSL modem
and test yahoo please
have done that and still no good, don't want to try now as it will cut me off chat
ok..
you get a page not found error?
it times out
click start, type in %temp% and press enter
delete all files in the Temp directory
then try please
just the same
ok, which anti virus software do you have?
Microsoft essentials on some AVG on others. I don't think it is that though as it is the same problem on all the pcs behind the router, some XP some Win7, chrome, opera,IE, exactly the same, am not sure a virus infection would do that and all scans are coming back clear anyway and there are no other virus symptoms
yes a virus can do this
theres a popular one that does Google
It does the same on my samsung galaxy phone over wifi - it can't get yahoo on wifi but gets it fine on 3g
ok, that confirms then
thanks
whats your public IP?
its 172.22.39.10 on the router
ok, now on your computer
click start, type in CMD and press enter
in the black window
type
now in that command windows run this command:ipconfig /flushdnspress enterand after that has completed run this:
then try to open Yahoo
its dynamic from the router, currently 192.168.1.5
will do that now
ok done that, still the same with yahoo
try yahoo.co.uk
still the same. I have tried yahoo.fr, yahoo.nl also, same result
ok, when you ping yahoo.com
whats the IP it translates?
87.248.112.181
1 min
ok
ho to
go to*
http://72.30.38.140
does the same, hasn't timed out yet but its about to
which ISP do you use?
http://www.nwewn.com/
anyone else on your location using it?
go here
http://anonymouse.org/
can you access it via this service?
I have phoned them and they don't know. Its a small operation with one tech support guy and he says its all clear on their side but I'm not sure. Still either way they aren't going to do anything at their end
understood
try the link I gave
some change - am getting some bits of text through though it looks like the internet from 1994 just a few links, most of it still missing, but we may be getting somewhere...
it is a workaround
tell me if it fully loads please
scrolled to the mail link and it errors from anonymouse and times out from http://72.30.38.140/
anonymouse won't go to mail as it is encrypted
ok, use this
http://www.hide-my-ip.com/
download and install the software
run it and then try to access yahoo on your computer
OK it has ran and changed my external IP but yahoo sites still timing out
no change
its slow right?
made VPN to some other place
the software you installed
yes, installed, it changed my IP address and location, but yahoo.com still not loading, same as before
you in the us? where abouts?
Ireland
it changed me to UK
choose a US location
checked if you were blacklisted, your not
ok, changed to US, still the same
100% the samsung has the problem
correct?
as this is a computer problem, not network
also you access other sites in hidemyip ok?
Yes, samsung gets mail on 3G connection, will not get mail on wifi (from my router - ok on other wifi)
sorry, you access other sites on hidemyip?
yes everything else coming up fine with hidemyip
you changed DNS before?
4.2.2.1 ?
can't get it from 87.248.112.181 either
changed DNS to open DNS, no change - haven't changed it back to ISP DNS at it seems to run generally better from open DNS settings
change to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
ok will do, wait a minute
ok changed that, no go with yahoo, fine with other sites
ok, if you connect a laptop to another wireless
does it work?
only have desktops here in the office
ok, it sounds very much like PC problem as hidemyip shows, but because of the Samsung, it must be an ISP problem
only wireless I have is phone
I know that doesnt help much
but you could tether the computer to your phone via USB cable and have a work around that way
Then you need to force the ISP to restart the main router
it can be a badly cached route
Though, hidemyIP has the problem
which doesnt make sense....
yeah, I kind of had that feeling too but after chat from ISP its clear that they aren't going to help. Their advice was to email yahoo, though I pointed out that if I could do that I wouldn't need to it was kind of end of the conversation with them. Also I can't realistically tether the phone as I can only get 3G standing 50m away at the bottom of the garden - its pretty rural here and 3G signal is limited at best
ok, yahoo wont help
can promise you that much
click start, type CMD and enter
type in
route -f
press enter
test
hi, i'm back, you still there?
that killed all network activity!
not sure I got that step right, can you run it by me again please
thats intresting....
clears local routers
routes*
you should not have any to begin with
fact you lost network
is very wierd
can you access yahoo?
when I did that it killed everything, I had to disable network adapter and then reenable to get back online
do you add static routes to the PC's?
still no yahoo though
do you add static routes to pcs there?
not sure what you mean about static routes?
ok, then you dont
do this
in CMD window
tracert yahoo.com
right click the window, Mark, then copy and paste the results here
hang on its doing a lot on the trace

I switched off hide my ip when I lost network earlier
i see a request time out
checking it
yes, there were a couple and I thought that would be the end so was surprised to see it bouncing around a bit more after that
yeah but i think this is the problem
but seeing this
it is the isp
ok, sorry but there is no way to bypass this ip route
the problem is the time outs
and that is set in your ISP's router
if they just restart the core router, 99% chance this is fixed
as it will be a bad route
can you ring them and try to get them to do this?
it will have to be in the morning as it is after 11PM here
ok, but they have to
else you need another internet line
it is 100% on the ISP side
the tracer shows this
with the time out on the hops
causes the browser to shut the connection
ok, fair enough, I'll try that in the morning - look I really appreciate your time and help, do I click accept for you to get paid?
its up to you
only if you are satisfied with my service
yes, you've been a great help, and I certainly value the time you spent with me so many thanks, will come back to you in the future if I need anything else.
