Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.

You can try these instructions from your iPad and they might work, but most likely you will need a computer to fix this issue. Please try these instructions first from your iPad and see if they work. Let me know if not.

  1. Tap Safari.
  2. When Safari opens, type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar at the top and then tap Enter.
  3. When prompted, leave the username blank and type admin for the password. These are the default values and may not work on your router. Please let me know if they do not.
  4. When the router's configuration opens, click on the Wireless tab. Here your wireless network name will be displayed in the SSID box. Make sure this name matches the network you are trying to join.
  5. Next click on the Wireless Security sub-tab. Here your password XXXX be displayed in plain text. If you are using WEP, it will be listed in the Key #1 box. If you are using WPA, it will be listed in the Pre-Shared Key box (may also be called the Passphrase box).
  6. Enter that password XXXX your iPhone when prompted and you should get connected to your network.

OK then the one other thing you can do is simply reset the router to its default state. In this state the router just serves up a wireless network with no password, so you can then join it to anything. Please note that if you do this your iPad will be disconnected from the network as well and you may have trouble getting it reconnected.

If you decide you don't want to do this then you really will need a computer to fix this situation. If you decide you do want to do it then simply press and hold the reset button on the bottom or back of the E1000 (the placement depends on the revision of the router) for 15 seconds and then release. The router will reboot and being serving a non-password XXXXXXXXX network called Cisco or Linksys and you should be able to join it without a password.

I'm concerned that I will not be able to use my IPad if I follow your instructions.

I understand completely. In that case you will need to follow my instructions from a computer. Maybe someone can let you borrow a laptop?
