With the modem connected to the router and the router connected to the computer, I could not open the link you sent me, 192.168.1.1. Connecting the router between the modem and the computer when online, knocks me offline.

Expert:  Ed replied 1 year ago.

with the router connected

Click start, run and type cmd into the box and press enter
In big black box type ipconfig and press enter
What is the default gateway address, something like 192.168.1.1

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Default gateway address was 192.168.1.1.

Expert:  Ed replied 1 year ago.

Then that has to be the address to log into the router. Connect the router back and try manually typing that into the address bar.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I typed 192.168.1.1 into the address bar which brought up a screen that asked for username and password. I used admin for both. The router screen came up with the correct model number. Ityped in the host name and set the time zone and saved changes, all to no avail.

Expert:  Ed replied 1 year ago.

If you are not sure of your DSL user name and password XXXXX your ISP website when directly connected to modem and login there to test them.

Not sure why the router wasn't blank and admin but if you got in then ok.
You do not use a host name. Select basic settings. Select PPOE and enter your user name and password XXXXX DSL. This is not the admin you used before. Then click connect or apply.
Then test internet.
