Customer Question

I bought a router a couple of weeks ago. I have a new kindle fire and want to access the web but the password XXXXX gave my router is not workingl. How do I find out the password

Browser: IE

Already Tried:
I keep trying the password XXXX I gave the router on setup. That's all I know to do. When I was at my son's I usedd their router and password XXXX no problems so I know the kindle works and I have used it at another resident.

Here is how to find your password:

If you have a Windows 7 computer that is already wirelessly connected ,

the password XXXXX XXXXX that computer, just take these steps:

Try this on the wirelessly connected Windows 7 computer:

Click the Windows Start button >

Choose Control Panel>

Then Choose Network and Sharing>

Click Manage Wireless Networks on the TOP LEFT OF YOUR SCREEN >

Click on and Highlight your wireless network shown there in the list, then Right Click to get drop down menu then select Properties >

Click the Security Tab>

Click the Show Characters Box and this will show your network password.

I did all the steps but when I went into properties there was no security tab to click

Okay, try this please.

Step 1:
Launch a web browser like Internet Explorer.Step 2:In the Address bar, enter your router’s IP address then press [Enter].NOTE: The router’s default IP address is 192.168.1.1. If it doesn’t work or if the IP address has been changed, check your Linksys router's IP address. For instructions, click here.

Step 3:
Enter your router's User name and Password XXXXX click OK.

NOTE: The default password XXXXX “admin” and you may leave the User name field blank.

Step 4:On the setup page, click Wireless.


Step 5:Take note of the Network Name (SSID).

Step 6:Click Wireless Security and take note of the Security Mode and the Passphrase.





To check the wireless settings using Cisco connect, follow the steps below:
Step 1:Launch Cisco Connect.

NOTE: To launch Cisco Connect on a Windows computer, click Start > All Programs > Cisco Connect. For instructions, click here.

Step 2:In the main screen of Cisco Connect,select Router settings for Linksys wireless-N router.Step 3:You can view your wireless network name and password XXXXX the Personalize column. To go back to the main screen, click Finish.

I cannot enter my passwordl. I don't remember it and at this point I can't remember the user name. I tried the default and it didn't work.

Okay, Please Reset the Linksys router to factory defaults


To do this, press and hold the Reset button located at the back of the router for 30 seconds.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the Power LED of the router is blinking when you press the Reset button. This indicates that the router is being reset properly.

 

 

After pressing the Reset button, unplug and re-plug the router’s power adapter.



Before accessing the router’s web-based setup page, make sure the router is powered ON and the computer is WIRED to one of the Ethernet ports on the router (1, 2, 3 or 4).

 

Access the router’s web-based setup page

 

Step 1:
Launch a web browser like Internet Explorer.

 

Step 2:
In the Address bar, enter your router’s IP address then press [Enter].

The router’s default IP address is 192.168.1.1.

 

 

Step 3:
Enter your router's User name and Password then click OK.

The default password XXXXX “admin” and you may leave the User name field blank.


Step 4
On the setup page, click the Wireless > Wireless Security.

 

You can also set the wireless security of your Linksys E-Series routers


with Cisco Connect.

I did all you said but the box came up for the name and password XXXXX I left the name blank and typed admin into the password, hit enter and another box came up requesting for the same info.l

I did as you said about the IP address and the screen that came up wanted my name and password. I left the name blank and typed in admin for password XXXXX it came back incorredt and won't go any further

Are you able to access the router settings with the log in "admin"?

I can not access the router setings. My husband and I went to Office Depot yesterday, where we purchased the router and the technician said the password XXXXX not be accessedl.
