I need helpattaching a kindle fire to our netgear wifi. Amazon cs walked me through all of their steps (did not seem all that knowledgeable in doing so). We have had problems with other devices getting connected, i.e. wii and xbox needed cs of respective companies walk me through a manual settings process. I have a netgear rangemax wireless router wpn824v3. Please help....
Hello, I'd like to help you with your question. Please remember to click the accept button if you are satisfied with my answers.
To start out, do you know the name of your wireless network, and the password XXX it?
yes
And do you get any error messages when you try to connect from the fire? Can you see your network in the list of available choices?
Yes I can see my network and it gives me an error message that says ...unable to connect to the selected access point. Please check the password XXX have provided
the password XXX been verified on other devices as being correct
hello???
Do you know what encryption type you are using on the netgear?
WPA or WEP?
wpa
It is most likely one of the 2, and you may need to switch it to the other type to establish a connection.
Ok, have you tried running WEP instead?
The kindle should have no problem with a WPA or WPA2 network, but since it doesn't seem to be working, this is a reasonable place to start.
If you prefer, you can try to just reboot the router and test the connection again, before making configuration changes to the router.
i have rebooted both router and kindle. We have had problems with this router and other devices connecting ie wii and xbox. We have had to go in and manually set the connection.
Did you assign a static IP address to the wii and xbox?
yes I believe so
Ok, so you'll need to do the same with the kindle, if you know the addresses you used for the wii and xbox, just pick the next number up.
i am not tech saavy enough to know what I am doing with that hence my arrival here
Ok, i'll walk you through it.
thank you
On the fire, click on the settings button (gear icon, top right corner)
hit wifi, then advanced settings
It will take you to a page asking for a bunch of information,
yes there
some of that we'll get from the computer you're using now, if it's connected to the netgear
yes I have that info up as well
to go your start menu, then run, then type "cmd" then enter
ok
in the command prompt, type ipconfig /all
done
Ok, do you see in there where it says gateway
And the address is probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
I see a default gateway matching those #s
What does it say for default gateway
192.168.1.1
You'll also put that in for dns 1 and dns 2
Ok, that is what you will enter in the router field on the fire
in that window on the computer, what does it say for the ipv4 address?
192.168.1.11 (preferred)
Ok, do you recall what you used for the wii and xbox?
for?...
For the ip address
no but I can look brb
192.168.1.11 (the ipv4) is the IP address of your computer.
Ok, please do and let me know. I also need to know how many other wifi devices you are using in the home.
the wii is 192.168.001.126 we have a laptop, 2 iphones, @ wii, The xbox is hardwired to the router, I believe.
Is the laptop set up with a static ip address?
That wii address does not fit with the address assigned to the laptop.
we did not having problems connecting with the laptop. I just recognized and connected. no answer for the wii ip address. Maybe I am looking at wrong thing.
No it's ok, it is just at the high end of the range.
Whoever set that up for you probably did that to avoid conflicts with other devices at the lower end of the range, it's ok.
We will pick something in between, for the same reason.
That sounds familiar
For the IP address on the fire use 192.168.1.100
subnet 255.255.255.0
and you should have the rest filled in already, correct?
Router field??
that is the "default gateway" field from before, 192.168.1.1
use this same number for dns 1 and dns2
sorry reread the message abovr
so yes
No problem
one moment
Pardon my french sir but you.... Kick ass
Thank you!!
hahaha, you are very welcome.
It's connected and working now?
yes indeed
