Hello, please let me know if you have tried the previous procedure. Thank youJohn C.Computer Science Engineer
yes and it istillnot connecting
Sorry, I have to take my wife to the doctor; I'll try to get back to you later
Charles
OK.On step #6 of the second procedure, do you see the "Linksys" or "Cisco" network listed there?
I have tried the fix that you sent me several times and the wireless connection doesn't connect. Looking at the diagram in network connections it looks like the router is connected to the computer but not to the sat dish. When I connect the sat dish to the computer the connection is fine. Please help
You need to connect the sat dish internet device to the "WAN" or "Internet" port on the back of the Linksys router. Please check that and let me know.
Yes I have connected that and it still doesn't work
I have connected the sat dish to the internet connection on the router and it still doesn't work
Are you still there?
OK, with the modem connected to the "INTERNET" or "WAN" port on back of the Linksys router, please follow the steps below from your computer with Windows Vista:1- Click Start2- Click Control Panel3- Click "Classic View" on the left4- Click "Network and Sharing Center"5- Click "Connect to a Network" (on the left)6- You will see a list of wireless networks, please select your network name and click "Connect"Which names do you see listed here?
linksys and netgear
OK, select "Linksys", I suppose that's the name of your wireless network.Make sure the modem is still connected to the "INTERNET" or "WAN" port on back of the Linksys router. Select LinksysThen open Internet Explorer and go to www.yahoo.com and press enter, for example.Does it work?
No it will not open internet explorer
Please follow the steps below (Make sure the modem is still connected to the "INTERNET" or "WAN" port on back of the Linksys router, and the computer connected to the "Linksys" network)1- Click Start, then type "command" without the quotes and press Enter2- A black terminal window will show up. Please type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes and let me know the "Default Gateway", "IPv4 address", "IPv6 address", DHCP, DNS and "Subnet Mask" info under "Wireless Network Connection"
default gateway- not found
ipv4 address- 1922.168.1.1
ipv6 address- not found
dhcp enabled- yes
dns-192.168.1.1
subnet mask- 255.255.255.0 found under ethernet
OK, you need to connect the cable that comes from the satellite modem and that you usually connect to your computer, to the Internet or WAN port on back of the router.Disconnect it from the computer, then connect it to the router. Are you doing that?
yes, when I connect it to the computer internet works fine; when i connect the cable to the internet connection on the router i cannot connect to the internet
OK. Please ask your satellite provider if you have a PPPoE username and password XXX your internet connection and let me know.I will tell you how to add it to your router and that should solve the issue.Thank youJohn C.Computer Science Engineer
OK will do that tomorrow. I've got to call it a night as I have an early morning.
Thank you.
Iwill have to get back to you on monday because I'm tending to my wife's chronic illness.
I have contacted my sat dish provider, hughes.net and they said the ppoe username and password XX XXXX for dialup and they do not have the information
Are you out there?
OK. Some ISP's use PPPoE username and password XX well, even if they are not dial up.Anyway, we now know yours doesn't use it.Are you sure that the satellite modem is connected to the WAN or Internet port on the back of the router? Please let me know your Linksys router model number so we can verify it.It should work, try also with a different Ethernet cable. Thank youJohn C.Computer Science Engineer
I have tried connecting the ethernet cable to the route where it says internet and it still doesn't work. I have tried another ethernet cable and it doesn't work.
the model # XX XXXXXXX v1.5 and the serial # XX XXXXXXXXXXXX
OKPlease make sure to connect the Ethernet cable that comes from the satellite modem, to the Internet port on back of the Linksys router. Then if you want to connect a computer to the internet via wired, please connect another Ethernet cable from the back of the computer to one of the ports 1, 2, 3 or 4 on back of the Linksys router. Also, if you want to connect via wireless from another computer or device, please connect to the "Linksys" or "Cisco" wireless network from that computer or device. Please check that and let me know.
I have connected the ethernet cable that comes from the sat modem to the internet port on the back of the modem. No woreless internet connection.
I have the connected the the ethernet to one of the ports on the back of the (1,2,3,4,) modem hardwiring the router. No inter net connection,
I then connected the sat modem directly to the computer and I have an internet connection.
Also I tried my other windows 7 machine and there was no internet connection.
Did you get my reply?
It's been almost an hour, any suggestions? I've been waiting by the computer,
John- If you don't have an answer to my issue, please let me know. I have spent far to much time today trying make the router work. I have tried again to reset it as per your earlier instuctions to no avail.
Please let me know. I have to sign off now to get some other work done but will check back later.
Thank you Charles. I apologize for the long delay. It seems the router is defective. If your satellite company told you that you don't need any username and password XX be inserted into the router, then it should work as it is now.I found a Cisco e1000 router for $24.99 here -----> http://goo.gl/n1tRvWe can try with it if you want, and isolate the issue. Also, make sure we don't need any username and password XXXX the internet provider to be inserted into the router.Thank youJohn C.Computer Science Engineer
