My computer will not let me double click the icons to open

My computer will not let me double click the icons to open any file. This problem started two days ago. I have Mcafee antivirus and downloaded Malware bytes in safe mode and found 40 viruses. Have run both antiviruses for 2 days and it says I am virus free. Do you have a solution to this problem?

I can open any program and file...I just can't double click on it to open it. For instance...when I turn my computer on and Firefox icon comes up on my desktop. I normally could just double click on it to open it. Now I have to right click on my laptop and then right click to open.

I have gone to folders and clicked on organize and then changed it to single click...nothing happens. Gone back to a folder and changed it to double click. Nothing happens.

I moved it to slower but it still won't let me open the folder to the right (the example)

I just ran my antivirus again in safe mode and found no viruses. I can double click in safe mode.

Please click Start, then type msconfig and press Enter. Then click on the Startup tab and uncheck all the boxes, except your antivirus/security program. Then click on the Services tab and check the box at Hide all Microsoft services near the bottom. Then uncheck all the services, except your antivirus/security program. Then click OK, and restart the computer and check.

If that still does not work, go to Start, Control Panel, user accounts, manage another account and create a new administrator account, then restart the computer and login the new administrator account and see if you can double-click.

Actually, please try this first: click Start->All programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore and restore the computer to any date before this issue has occurred.

If that does not work, please click Start, then type msconfig and press Enter. Then click on the Startup tab and uncheck all the boxes, except your antivirus/security program. Then click on the Services tab and check the box at Hide all Microsoft services near the bottom. Then uncheck all the services, except your antivirus/security program. I just did system restore....it did not work.

I did try misconfig didn't work. I also just created a new administrator account....of course, this works because now I have none of my files or anything else there to work with. I can double click on the icons that are there but just as soon as I transfer my files over(which I don't know how to do) it will stop working.

when i cut and paste my documents or my pictures it says it is like 87,000 items. That is not correct. This is not working correctly. I am having to go back and enter into the old administrator and then cut and then enter into the new administrator and paste and then it says it will take 4 hours or so even though I cut and paste. Something is not working properly on this.
