Hi, and thanks for using JustAnswer.com.

In order to use wireless, you must have a wireless router. Please let me know the exact model of your Motorola device, so I can check if it has router function/ wireless capability.

Thanks,
-Viet

The external wireless router I am using is BELKIN.

My laptop is an HP 8650, with a built in wireless facility.

I can use internet if I plug the ethernet cable directly into the laptop, However I am unable to use the LAPTOP in wireless mod.

I hope this helps

Are you sure it's a laptop, not desktop?

Was wireless working previously?

If you connect the Ethernet cable directly from the laptop to the Belkin router (not the Internet modem), then it works?

Do you see the wireless light being turned on (green)?

Can you check if there is a wireless switch located in the front, left or right side of the laptop? If there is no wireless switch, can you press at the same times the two keys Fn and the wireless key (located from either the key F1 to F12) to turn on/off the wireless?

Thanks,

Yes Viet, It is a laptop with which I am having the problem. I also have desktop that I use wirlessly. It is an HP Pavilion 2000dv using VISTA operation system.

Yes t has worked previously as a wireless computer. Before travelling to FLORIDA last winter, It was usd only as a wireless compter. When in Fla, when Iinstalled service form ITT,I was provided with a modem. An ITT service person walked me through the procedure for converting from wireless to modem use.

Yes, when I connect directly to the intenet ,it works.

The light to the left front of the computer is always red..

Fixing internet connect error:

-------------------------------------------------------

The modem internet light is RED, all other lights are green

Power solid green

Erhernet Solid green

DSL Solid green

Internet solid red

Activity blinking green

Connect to ATT directly using: 192.168.1.254

Check if internet is UP, most likely it is down and has to be set to be reset.

Go to broadband connections to reset internet to UP ,

ALSO select to ALWAYS ON from drop down box.

Check that username and password XXXXX those provided by ATT.

Are you connecting directly to the motorola modem (what's the model of the modem) or to the Belkin router? Thanks.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

No, laptop is not connected to a modem. The router beng used is Belkin N Wireless router, Model Number : FSD 8233-4V3

The MOTOROLA IS NOT BEING USED THE ROUTER IS BELKIN V WIRELESS model number : FSD8233-4V3.

So you are connecting the motorola modem to the router and the computer to the router.

From any computer that is working with the Internet at your home, please go to http://192.168.2.1 and click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

Then you can click on the Wireless / security option to get the wireless / security passphrase / key.

Thanks,
-Viet
