Hi, and thanks for using JustAnswer.com.
What is the brand and model of your Vista computer?
Sometimes windows update gets corrupted.
Please try the following:
Please try this: turn off your computer. Then turn it on, and right after the black screen with white text or the computer company logo disappears, press & release key F8 repeatedly until a menu appears, then you select Safe Mode (note: if there is no menu, then try the same steps again, but this time, press key F8 a bit earlier). Then login and click Start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore and restore the computer to any date before this issue has occurred.
Then try to update again and check.
Please let me know if there is still any issue later. Thank you.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX through your suggestions. My computer is an Asus P5GC-MX/1333. Will let you know how I go.
You're welcome. Take your time.
I guess you built your computer as that is the motherboard model.
Tried using safe mode, but it still ends up with the configuring updates screen and wont go past that. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
Some friends of my at Computer troubleshooters built it for me. They arn't there anymore, hence my call to you.
So it could not work in Safe Mode either.
No, wouldn't work in safe mode either
When you press F8 and if you see the options: Last Known good configuration and/or Repair
then select that option and see
Ended up again at configuring updates screen!!! Still wont start properly
Is there repair option?
Do you have the windows vista / recovery disk
Only directory services restore mode
Debugging mode, enable boot logging
Enable low-resolution video, disable automatic restart on system failure, disable driver signature enforcement, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, that's all
Yes, I have the original Windows Vista disk. Do you think I need to reinstall Vista?
no, you don't need to for now
you can insert the vista disk
and boot from it
Ok, will try that.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX to go now. Will try that. If you can suggest anything else as well, that would be great!
You're welcome. That's all we can do: repair Windows. But you can always get back to me via this web page any time. Thank you.
