How do I find out what my network key is for my Cisco Linksys Router? I am trying to connect a computer to the internet through the Router. I have high speed internet service.

I want the system to be directly wired to the router using a LAN cable

It is a laptop that I have been using with the router for quite a while. I am trying to connect

a second laptop through the router.

Ok..Do you have a LAN cable through which you can connect the laptop your router (hardwire the laptop)

Customer:

I did not type that I wanted to connect through a lan cable. I want to connect wirelessly.

Yes..but a Lan cable is required to login and retreive the password. (wireless security key)

NetworkTech :

You will need to get into the router to find the password.

Customer:

Ok. Does an ether cable through the router work?

yes..

COnnect the ethernet cable to anyone of the ports on back of router.

Then hardwire it to any laptop

Ok. I have the ether net cable attached to the router.

Open internet explorer in system directly connected to router using ethernet cable

Type 192.168.1.1 and press enter.

OK

I am connected

Type 192.168.1.1 in address bar and press enter.

Is it asking you for a username//password XXXXX?

Customer:

No. It has brought up bing.

yes..in adress bar in top of internet explorer remove bing address and type http://192.168.1.1

Customer:

I have that typed into the address bar and hit entered. I am now connect to the server which requires a user name and password

Leave the username blank

NetworkTech :

In password XXXXX admin

NetworkTech :

Press enter

Customer:

Ok Have done that. Now in Linsys Setup

Now click wireless and then wireless security

NetworkTech :

Below that, you'll see your current security type (WEP, WPA, etc)

NetworkTech :

And below that you'll see passphrase/security key(s) you need to connect to your wireless - write those down.

Customer:

Have done that.

Make sure not to make any changes and exit the browser

NetworkTech :

Remove ethernet cable ..provide password XXXXX connect to wireless now.

I see a list that includes Security Mode, WPA Algorithm, WPA Shared Key and Group Key Renewal

I typed in the pass word and it worked on it, but came up not connected .

That's one heck of a password (length).

It takes the computer quite a bit to come up.

I have entered the password. It is acquiring network address.

It says that I am connected, but internet explorer will not load.

Now when I went to the wireless network page, I am not connected.

The problem seems to be with the laptop..ensure that wireless is enabled in the laptop..

As far as I can tell the wireless is enabled in the laptop. I there anything

I tried it again with the same results.

It is recognizing network,accepting password...connecting to network and then disconnecting...

Login back to router.

Change the password.

USe WEp instead of WPA
