Hello and welcome to JustAnswer! My name is XXXXX XXXXX thank you for giving me the opportunity to help you with your networking question.

I can help with this...I just have a few quick questions:

  1. About the ports - is this for a computer or game system?
  2. What is the brand and model number of your router?
  3. What is the brand and model number of your modem?

Thank you!

That model for your Linksys is a switch - typically, ports are opened on a router, but they can be opened within Vista too. Here is how to do it - this will let the ports through your firewall, leaving them open:

  1. Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel, then Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.

  2. Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall. If you are prompted for an administrator password XXXXX confirmation, type the password XXXXX provide confirmation.

  3. Click Add port.

  4. In the Name box, type a name that will help you remember what the port is used for.

  5. In the Port number box, type the port number.

  6. Click TCP or UDP, depending on the protocol.

The connection could be TCP or UDP, depending on what the port is being opened for. You can open both if you aren't sure.

Be sure to open up all three ports - if you have any questions, please ask.
