Hello Welcome to Just Answer
the problem is that you have slow internet on one laptop and others are working fine
first lets scan your home pc with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
and remove all the virus it has and then try again and keep me informed
I have the latest version of McAfee, will that work for a virus scan?
The "QuickScan" came back negative - no viruses found. I have initiated a full scan which might take a while. Is the quick scan good enough, or should I let the full scan complete before proceding?
quick scan is good enough
download malware anti bytes from the link i gave you
I have no internet connection on that machine (hence this chat). Can I download it onto one of my laptops and copy the file over with a flashdrive? I ask because some downloads are just the "initiation" files that require additional information to be downloaded to work.
just download it from this pc and copy that file with flash drive
I have the following file on a flashdrive for use on the affected PC - is this the right one? - ARO2010_mt.exe
it should be like mbam-setup
just click on the link i gave you an d click on download now
What I am about to download is called "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" - is that right?
Got it - transferring to PC and launching..
launched - whats next?
Found 6 objects infected with ~55,000 items scanned so far, still running...
let it scan
Quickscan complete. 210,731 items scanned, 11 infected. What's next?
remove the virus
now try your internet,it would work fast now
Still same as before. Google will not even load.
when you connect to network, does it show connected
The netgear wg111v3 Smart Wizard screen shows everything is working splendidly ("connected to router", 54 Mps, max signal strength) but when I launch IE it says "connecting..." at the top, never connects, then the "cannot display web page" screen appears - dead.
click on start->run and type ping www.google.com -t
and tell me do you get a reply from there
command prompt screen launches, but nothing comes back, screen closes.
ping www.google.com -t
space between com and -t
yes, same result - nothing.
click on start->run and type cmd
command prompt will open
type ping www.google.com -t
did it. get blinking cursor, then back to nothing.
and type ipcongfig /all
and tell me value of IPV4
Actually, got the message "ping request could not find host....'
now trying your last suggestion...
what is IPV4? do not see it in output yet.
IP Address is 192.168.1.3
it should work then
everything is great
Agreed, but it does not :-)
did you try different browser
like firefox ?
Do not have any other browser installed
Firefox Browser | Free ways to customize your Internet
download firefox from the above link
Is it self contained executable?
you will have to download firefox from this link
Firefox is loaded and launched. Says "Server not found" and cannot load google.
click on tools and internet options and then network tab
click on settings, there should be no proxy
I see Options in Firefox, but no network tab with it.
Then click on start->control panel->network connections->right click on wireless connection
and see automatically detect settings is set
When I right click on wireless connections, the options are disable, view available wireless connections, status, repair, bridge connections, create short cut, rename, and properties.
I do not see a check box or anything else resembling ""automatically detect settings"
When I click properties and click the wireless network tab, I see an unchecked box that says "use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Should that be checked?
do you see internet protocal(tcp/ip) there
on general tab
on general tab,you will see internet protocol(TCP/IP)
click on that
and click properties
I have lost track of where I am. I do not see a "general tab"
check this image
click on start->control panel->network connections->right click on wireless connection
Got it, and clicked on it...
settings should be automatically detect settings
how do I confirm that?
When I click properties, obtain IP and DNS server adresses automatically are both checked (i.e., radio buttons)
come back of it
in control panel
click windows firewall
and turn it off
on tcp/ip,click on propeerties
it is currently off (because I am using MacAffee firewall).
and check the the box of automatically detect settings
turn that off also
turn off all the anti-virus you have
both firewalls off. Hard to turn off antivirus, working on it...
right click on the icon in system tray and there will be option of disable
antivirus is now off...
restart and try to open websites again
Restart complete. Launched IE and will not connect to google.
Netgear Smart Wizard indicating all good with maximum signal strength and 54Mps.
Same same results.
and internet is working on other laptops
Firefox same results as IE - will not connect to google or anything else.
I am currently working on Dell laptop that is wirelessly connected to same router at the same location as the home PC (i.e., same distance away from router) and getting very snappy connection speeds.
and then type ipconfig /all
and note everything under wireless connection
connection specific DNS Suffix - : (Nothing noted) - Netgear WG111v3....
Description...: Netgear WG111v3 Wireless-G USB Adapter #2
just tell me values of ip address ,default gateway, subnet mask
and DNS servers

this was same on laptop also
Default gateway - 192.168.1.1
Checking laptop now...

IPv4 - 192.168.1.2 (Preferred)
Default Gateway and DNS both 192.168.1.1

now again on home PC
For home PC

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Laptop and Home PC identicles except for IP
lets try to put static address
go to wireless connection again in control panel
general tab->tcp/ip properties
yes,on which internet is not working
OK, getting there now
I am there.
now center ip address yurself
Ip address 192.168.1.5
subnet mask: same(which you noted)
everything same which you noted down
Any alternative DNS needed?
There is an open space for that in dialog box
OK - Done. Hit OK?
now try again to be online
Not connecting to google or anything else with FireFox or IE :-(
I really appreciate your persistance with helping me on this. Is it possible that I have a higher level conflict somewhere in the stack?
i cannot see any conflict
click on start->run
and type %temp%
and delete every time you can
Done. 284 files, 38MB deleted.
Tried relaunching IE and FireFox - not connecting to google.
Netgear Smart Wizard still reading max signal and 54Mps speed.
lets go into your router and check some settings
Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and enter this address:
A login prompt will appear:
and tell me when you are in router page
I am there
click on wireless tab
on left hand side
and check wireless channel mode is set to mixed
Channel is set to auto, there is no mixed option.
there will be option of b/g/n together
Do not understand b/g/n together.
what options do you see there ?
there will be a drop down box
Auto, then lists channels 01 to 11.
where auto is selected, what all options are there if not selected auto ?
There are 12 options - Auto, 01, 02, 03......11.
no i am not talking about wireless channel
check wireless mode
3 options - Up to 54, 72 or 150 Mps.
now where auto was selected, select 11
Click LAN Setup under Advanced. Change the IP address to 192.168.5.1, then save and exit the router.
Are we still talking under properties for Wireless Connections within Network Connections of Control Panel?
under netgear router page
OK, in process
now save the settings
power off modem and router for 60 seconds and power them on again
restart your computer
and then try again
OK. In process...
any success ?
On shut down it went through a required Windows update without a choice, so is taking an extra few minutes...
no issues,i am still here for you
I am getting tired, Almost 3am in Denver. Where are you at?
do not worry, lets just try few more things and then you can sleep
I was in Bangalor about 3 years ago. Beautiful place, very hi-tech and vibrant.
Are you in south or north India?
yes i know, banglore is very high tech city very beautiful too...india is beautiful

PC started ?
Just came up. No connection still...
OK, what else :-)
Go to Start, Run and type in CMD. Type the following commands:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot your computer and see if the Internet connection works
press enter after every command
OK. In process
i hope this works, otherwise you will have to format your PC or it is a hardware problem
What are the possible hardware problems most likely contributing to this?
your network card does not support new router
So, maybe returning the Wireless-G USB and getting a Wireless-N USB Adapter?
or just change your network card in PC and upgrade to a new one
that would be better
Intersting. I am getting websites now!
i am too happy
i will appreciate a big bonus for this
Please Click on ACCEPT so that i can be paid for my work with positive feedback and good bonus
What DID we do with that last set of commands, and what does that mean the likely cause of the problem was?

it gets corrupted sometimes
