Your initial suggestions have already been tried, repeatedly.
We need to get into the Earthlink provided Zyxel modem and my purchased Linksys router manually. I have been manually trying for quite sometime with many internet search references to get this setup, to no avail. VERY frustrated, could we work this in real time via chatting or email?
Can't do email or switch to chat but this should be just as fast. I will be here for a while.
Does the computer connect when directly connected to the zyxel?
Yes, have no problem using just the modem. Problems arise when I insert the wireless router. I currently have the modem in bridge mode.
If you stay in the waiting room you should get my answers instantly.
Log into the router by entering 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and then leave the user field blank and enter admin for the password.
Make sure WAN cable of the router is connected to the modem and one of the LAN cables is connected to the computer or laptop.
OK lets totally reset the router and see if we can connect to it.
Press and hold in the little reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds. You might need a paper clip or pen tip.
Release the reset after 30 seconds.
Wait 30 seconds.
Turn off laptop.
now try to go to 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
