i tried what you suggested but it did not help connect the unit to the internet.

i dont have any trouble connecting the computer to the unit, and have no problem connecting the old modem to the internet using the same cable.

the problem is that when i connect the dsl cable to the netgear modem/router it doesn't connect to the internet

i have been using an old outdated sbc 2wire home portal modem/router for some years and decided it was time to get a new modem/router with better wireless than the old 2wire modem.

i was told by the salesman at best buy that this netgear modem/router would work with at&t dsl and it also was written on the box that it would work.

took it home and hooked it up in place of the older modem/router and followed the instructions and wiz application, but ran into the problem of no internet connection.

i have a set of static ip addresses and do not have to log in like others who have pppoe connections.

i have tried setting it up with the same ip settings as i was using before, but so far nothing i have tried has been able to get the unit to connect to the internet line.

i know your problem

i do not want you to put static ip address

and in pppoe connections,you do not have to login sir,it is set to automatic
i think you have not installed it properly
you must be having username and password XXXXX your ISP,in the basic settings menu,you should check if username and password XXXXX XXXXX

and in wireless settings,change it to DHCP (it will automatically take the ip addresses)
save the settings,power off your modem and switch it on after 2 minutes

then on your computer
click on start->settings->control panel->network connections,right click on wireless connection->properties

then tcp/ip properties,change it to automatically obtain ip address and try again
