Hello and welcome to JustAnswer,I am Pete, a networking and computers expert. Can you tell me the make and model of your wife's laptop? How old is the laptop?Have you shut the laptop down and rebooted it before trying it again? Are there any error messages or symbols on your wife's laptop?
Yes, error message says in part, DHCP server not responding
The DHCP server on this network failed to respond to the request you system made for automatic IP address config
Ok, a reboot of the laptop should force it to make a fresh request for an IP address. Have you tried a reboot yet?If possible, can you reboot your router at a convenient time as well?
Have rebooted several times, and same with router, again, my laptop and another pc in the house are working fine using the netgear router, my wife's laptop worked using the router until yesterday.
Are you familiar with configuring the wireless network?Do you know if the laptop is set to obtain an IP address automatically?
Can you go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Manage Wireless Networks
You should then see your wireless network. Can you tell me what the security type is? (eg WEP, WPA)
Trying now, will update you
I found the wireless network and hit automatically connect, do I need to reboot the laptop now to see if it worked?
Yes, reboot the laptop to ensure the new settings are applied.
Ok, WPA2 encryption does sometimes cause IP conflicts with the network adapters that Lenovo use.
Would it be possible for you to change your router to use WEP encryption?
This will almost certainly solve your connection problem.
If you need any help with the configuration of your router, please let me know.
Didn't work, am trying to configure router now
I have to go out shortly, but we can catch up again here later when I get back..
Please let me know if changing the router's security configuration from WPA2 to WEP has worked for you.
we corrected most issues i believe, however, we havent figured out how to change encyption settings, her laptop shows wep but needs to show wpa2.
To change the encryption settings, you will need to log on to the router's configuration and change it there. This will generate a new wireless security key, and you will need to reconnect your other laptops once this is complete.
If you need further instructions on changing the encryption settings on your router, please let me know the make and model of the router so I can help you further.
My wife got her company to change the encryption setting on her laptop. Still didn't work, called a fellow out to fix it, he did.
????He had to change the auto password XXXXX the router and then changed it back.
