Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX thank you for giving me the opportunity to help you with your networking question.
Can you tell me the brand and model number of both the new modem and router please?

Perfect, thank you...
Your router likely still has some of the DSL settings that are preventing it from working properly. Let's change those...
Start by doublechecking the connections. The Surfboard modem connects to the blue internet port of the Linksys, then one of the Yellow ports to your computer. Power off the computer connected to the router and unplug the AC adapter from the modem.
With power still on to the router, use a pen to press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 15 seconds, then release. Power off the router.
Power on the modem - wait 60 seconds
Power on the router - wait 60 seconds
Power on the pc
You should be back online at this point with the router in place. Next is the wireless security setup.
Use the computer directly connected to the router and open Internet Explorer. A wireless connection will not work. Enter this address:
http://192.168.1.1/
A login screen will appear - leave the username blank and enter admin for the password. You should now be inside the setup of the router.
Click Wireless at the top of the page. Change the Network Name (SSID) to anything you would like, just something unique that you have not used before - this will be the name of your wireless network. It's best to not have any spaces in the network name.
Next, click Wireless Security in the submenu just below Wireless. Change the security mode to WPA-Personal. You will see a passphrase/pre-shared key box - this is your wireless password. Enter a password XXXXX at least 8 characters, then save the settings.
Your network is now secure and ready for the wireless connection. All connections will work directly plugged into the router also.
If you have questions as to how to connect wirelessly, please ask. Here are the steps for Windows 7:
Click the Wireless icon on the bottom right corner of you desktop - this will bring up a list of available wireless networks. Click on the SSID/Network Name you made, then click Connect. Enter your password XXXXX prompted and your connection will be complete.
