Hi,

Can you click start then connect to and let us know if you see your network listed in the wireless network list.

If so can you select it then click connect and tell us what happens, Does it then ask you for a password XXXXX does it show as connected?

If it asks for a password XXXXX you tell us what model your router is?

Thanks

Eric

Customer replied 1140 days and 10 hours ago.

the model number is XXXXX

and it asks for a security pass word

Ok,

To get your password XXXXX you go to a machine that can get online through the router then click Start and then can you type CMD in the run box then hit enter to open a DOS window, Or if you use Vista can you click start then type cmd into the search box at the bottom of the start menu then hit enter to open the DOS window.

When the window opens can you type ipconfig then hit enter and make a note of the Gateway address which should be something like 192.168.1.1

Once you have that can you open a Internet Explorer Window and type the gateway address in the following format http://192.168.1.1 then hit enter to open the routers login page.

When prompted type your admin username and password ( If you have not changed it just leave the username blank and enter admin as the password XXXXX if you cannot get in can you try admin for the username and admin for the password)

When you get logged into the router can you click the Wireless tab then click the Wireless Security link under the Wireless tab and your password XXXXX be listed so you can write it down and tape it to the bottom of the router in case you need it in the future.

Try that and let us know if you have any issues.

Thanks

Eric

Ok,

Can you tell me what it said under wireless security for your password?

Thanks

Customer replied 1140 days and 10 hours ago.

It really did not say anything and you have to know that i'm not that computer literate, I had my son help and he has no clue either is there any other way to change the security password XXXXX also my desktop works just fine it is my laptop and when I installed linksys it was installed directly onto the laptop.

Ok,

Inthat case lets go step by step.

Can you go to any mahcine that can get online through the router such as the one you are talking to me on and click this link http://192.168.1.1 and it should bring up a login window.

Can you leave the username empty and type admin for the password XXXXX you should get this screen:-

When you get to it can you click the Wireless tab then when it opens can you click the wireless security link and you should get a page like this:-

If you get that pagge can you tell me what it says in the Security Mode box near the top?

Thanks

Eric
