Hi there, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I would be happy to assist you with that. Do you have the Gateway laptop available right now, and are you on that laptop or another computer?

Thanks,
Matthew
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I do have the Gateway available, but because that one doesn't connect to the internet by the wireless way, I am now in an other computer connected at my home wireless network
Expert:  Matthew J replied 6 years ago.
That's fine. That just tells me what we have to work with to determine the problem. Does the Gateway see you home network? What is the problem it is having connecting?

Thanks,
Matthew

when I look for the wireless network the Gateway laptop sees it and it is with all bars full

When I try to connect it sais Cannot find server

Ok, I need you to do the following on the computer you are on, and also on the Gateway laptop.

1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard. At the same time, press R.
2. In the Run window that opens, type cmd and press Enter.
3. In the black and white command window that opens, type ipconfig /all and press Enter.

From the resulting information I need the following from both computers (please differentiate which is which in your answer:

IP Address (or IPv4 Address):

Default Gateway:

DNS Server(s):

Thanks,
Matthew
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Both computers have:

Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1

DNS Server - 192.168.1.1

The laptop connecting to the wireless netwek has

IP Address - 192.168.1.4

The laptop connecting to the internet only trough a hard wire has:

IP Address - 192.168.1.6

Expert:  Matthew J replied 6 years ago.
So the Gateway laptop, which is connected wirelessly, has an IP of 192.168.1.4, and the Default Gateway and DNS Server are the same as the computer you are on, yet it won't connect to the internet?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
correct
Expert:  Matthew J replied 6 years ago.
What version of Windows is it, and would you mind if I remote in and take control of the computer to fix it?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

I don't know; How do I found out what version it is?

Is there any posibility to try to work it without you taking control?

When I try to do an automatic repair of the network connection I get the folloing answer:

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because cannot compete the following action: Renewing your IP Address

Expert:  Matthew J replied 6 years ago.
We can attempt to correct the problem this way, usually we can. It's just a bit easier if I can connect, but that's fine.

To find the Windows version, hold down the Windows key and press R at the same time.

In the Run window that opens, type winver and press Enter.

Thanks,
Matthew
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

It is Version 5.1

Thank you!
