I bought a WGR614 for my new Dell laptop, but I still have to have the wired connection to have internet access, even after installing and running the Smart Wizard. What else do I need to do?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows VistaBrowser: IE Already Tried: everything I was instructed in the CD and the online setup that went step-by-step. I then called the "Geek Squad" to no avail.
Hey cat!
Do you get high speed through the cable company? Or is it through the phone line/phone company.. DSL?
phone company DSL
For DSL you'll need to configure that router with a login do you know your username and password XXXXX your DSL service?
no...I have my IPS config. # is that the same?
I would call your provider and make sure you have the correct login for your DSL first before proceeding. Here are the directions.
Reset the router first, this is done by pressing and holding the reset button on the side of the unit for about ten seconds with the power ON. Then take your finger off the reset button and pull the power cord from the unit.
Make sure the cables are connected correctly. The network cable from the dsl modem plugs directly into the back of the netgear where it says WAN or INTERNET. Plug a computer into the netgear as well into 1 2 3 4 etc, pick one.
Then.. power modem and router off by pulling the power cord, wait about a minute.
Then... turn on the dsl modem, wait 30 seconds, turn on the netgear wait 30 seconds.
Now to setup DSL.
From the computer go to
http://www.routerlogin.net
Username is admin
Password XXXXX password
You are now in the netgear setup
From the main menu click setup wizard. (This is the equivalent of using the CD) Be sure you choose that your internet REQUIRES a login when prompted. Enjoy!
This has still not helped with my situation so how do I withdraw my $$$? I think I will just return the router and stay wired...a lot less hassle!!

Problem was not resolved so I will not be accepting. I would like my $16.00 bid removed.
Hey cat, I told the moderators to close the question. You aren't charged anything unless you click accept.
I didn't click accept...my problem wasn't solved, but my account was debited $16.00. To whom do I go to complain and demand a refund?
I already sent you the JustAnswer support above.
