HiCustomerand thanks for choosing Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will be happy to assist you with this question.

Are you connected directly to the Arris now? If so, can you do the following for me?

  1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press R to bring up the Run window.
  2. Type cmd and click OK.
  3. Type ipconfig /all and hit the Enter key.
  4. Right click anywhere on the data and choose Select All.
  5. Hit the Enter key to copy all of the data.
  6. Paste the data into your reply to me.

OK here is what I would like for you to do. You will need to print or save these directions as you will be disconnected from the Internet temporarily while you perform them. Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any issues!

  1. Unplug your computer from the Arris modem and plug it into one of the LAN ports on your wireless router. Do NOT plug your router into your modem yet.
  2. Reboot your computer so it gets a new IP address from the wireless router.
  3. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://192.168.1.1/
  4. When prompted, leave the username blank and type admin for the password.
  5. When the router configuration page opens, scroll down about halfway and change the Local IP Address to 192.168.16.1 (it should say 192.168.1.1 now).
  6. Click Apply or Save Settings.
  7. Reboot your computer again and plug your router's Internet / WAN port into your Arris modem's Ethernet port.
  8. When you computer comes back, you should have Internet access. If you don't please let me know. If you do, please continue to setup a secure wireless network.
  9. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://192.168.16.1/.
  10. When prompted, leave the username blank and type admin for the password.
  11. Click on the Wireless tab. Here you can change the name of your wireless network by changin the text in the SSID box. Once complete, click Apply or Save Settings.
  12. Now click on the Wireless Security tab. Choose WPAPersonal from the Security Mode drop down box and then enter a password XXXXX at least eight characters (this will be your network password) into the Pre-Shared Key box. Click Apply or Save Settings.

At this point you should be able to connect your computers to your new wireless network using the password XXXXX created.

It didn't work, I had to plug the modem into a lan port and ipconfig / release then ipconfig /renew to get internet.

Here is the ipconfig /all

OK it may be that your Linksys needs to clone your computer's mac address to make this work:

  1. Plug your modem's network cable into the WAN/Internet port on the WRT54GX2.
  2. Plug your computer's network cable into any of the Ethernet ports on the WRT54GX2.
  3. Unplug the power to both the cable modem and the Linksys router.
  4. Power the cable modem back on. Wait for it to sync, usually about 60 seconds.
  5. Power the Linksys router back on. Wait for it to sync, usually about 30 seconds.
  6. Reboot your computer and then try the Internet again. If this works, great. If not, please continue.
  7. Open up Internet Explorer (or whichever browser you use) and go to http://192.168.16.1 (or http://192.168.1.1 if the router has been reset).
  8. Login.
  9. Click on the Mac Address Clone subtab.
  10. Click Enable, and then click 'Clone Your PC's MAC'.
  11. Click Save Settings, and then repeat steps 3-6.
  12. At this point you will hopefully have Internet, but if not, please log back into the router and click the Status tab. Record what you see there, and then reconnect your computer to the modem directly.

Keep me posted on your progress and thanks!
