I can help you, but I will need more information as to which router you have. From what I can tell you want to access the system from the web? or outside of where you have it setup. That is totally doable, but I need more information like make and model of your router.Bohack39884.8903689005

Mike,

One last question and I will have an answer for you.... The 3800HGV how is it connected to your computer? Is it connected via USB or Ethernet? I have the manual for the 3800 and I will have an answer once I know that last piece of info.

Thanx,

Jon B.

Mike,

Ok this is some what easy... The Samsung unit is set to DHCP by default which means it will obtain an IP address automatically. The range of IP address that are handed out by the 3800HGV-B is default to 192.168.1.33 to 192.168.1.250. So it is safe to say that if you drop to a command prompt by going to start->run and type CMD <enter> then in the window type ipconfig <enter> your IP address should be in that range.

The unit will need to be set up below that range so I would recommend statically setting the IP address to 192.168.1.5... I know that sounds easy... In the manual for the Samsung on page 24 they explain how to naviagate the on screen menu. It does not look friendly, however the enter key and the menu key should get you to the network settings screen displayed on page 30.

You will need to set the network access setting to static, leave the http port at 80 and then enter in the IP address of 192.168.1.5 and a network mask of 255.255.255.0 the default gateway will be 192.168.1.254. As for the DNS settings you can leave those as is or blank they will not matter for web access.

Now you can access the web interface on the Samsung by following page 38... open a web browser (you must run internet explorer) and type http://192.168.1.5 <enter> it will as for a username and password XXXXX is username of 'root' and a password XXXXX 'root' (without quotes). It will ask to install an activex control (it uses this to display picture in the web page)... answer yes to it or watch the top bar for the active x install prompt.

From there it is all yours... Looks pretty simple to operate and work. Page 70 explains how to change the default password XXXXX I strong urge you to do so...

Have a good night and be patiencent with it :)

Mike,

Did you buy the system brand new? If so check your book the password XXXXX different than root you are typeing in root all lower case? also if it is not new in the box we can reset the config back to defaults, but you will need to set the IP address again. We are close... I will take a look at the defaulting procedure, but let me know about the password XXXXX the origins of the system.

Thanx,

Jon B.

Jon,

Yes, was purchased new, but has been several years. It seems that in the book's example, "root" is the password XXXXX use.

Thanks

Mike,

I have searched high and low for a factory reset procedure for this unit and can not find one. Either the password XXXXX been changed... or the admin has been disabled thru the on screen menu, but the book does not state a way to change the admin thru the on screen menu. So unless there is an option that needs turned on it is assumed it is on already.

It did state that after a successful setting of the static IP address the [S] will flash on the screen. It is also recommended to reboot the unit after the IP is set, although I really do not think it will make much of a difference.

As for the reset procedure you can try to power the unit off and hold the menu button for 15 seconds. If that does not work then hold the enter button in and power cycle the unit again waiting 15 seconds. The way to test it has reset back to default is: on the PC go to start - run and type 'cmd' <enter> then in the window ping 192.168.1.5 after it has booted up. You should not return a ping it will time out if successful and you will need to redo the settings. However running this procedure will reset all settings if it works. There were no clear instructions on the web site on the reset procedure.

Right now we are fighting the password XXXXX username, you can also try root and password XXXXX admin and password... Maybe the revision of book has not changed with the password... again going off the assumption that the unit was set from the factory and nobody changed it. Please let me know...

Thanx,

Jon B.

Mike,

I believe the next step is to call the company for the factory reset procedure. I would like to verify that when you go to http://192.168.1.5 it looks like the book, also in the book they require Internet Explorer any version will do, but it is required. Also the book is missing a URL it says to follow the URL but does not specify... I'm wondering if there is something missing like http://192.168.1.5/admin? or if the combination of root and upper lower case is the problem also try root without a password. so root username and enter... If not I fear that calling Samsung for a factory reset procedure is the only way to retreive the password.
