JA: Just to clarify, what's the make and model of your laptop, and what operating system are you running?
Customer: Acre aspire 7551G-2437
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: No
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Hello,

I read your having an issue with your Acer laptop.

Perhaps I can be of assistance today?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.

Thank you for replying.

The light you indicate that is on is the power light right?

Besides the light, you state the unit won't turn on.

Do you happen to hear anything power on like the HDD or the DVD Drive?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I don't know what you mean. I do hear a noise clicking

Ok. I just asked cause it might be the computer is on but the screen is not working. Speaking of the screen, anything when trying to powering it on? Does it flicker?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I feel warmth coming from the side of the computer where there is a ven

Oh, ok. That's good to know.

That means the fan is working.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have unplugged and then plunged back in

Do you happen to have a computer monitor you can use?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Won't boot up
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok

Alright.

Another way to see if the computer is working is to see if we can get an external monitor and connect it to your Acer.

Do you happen to have a computer monitor you can use?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
What is a computer monitor?

Do you have a desktop computer with a monitor screen?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No

Ok, no problem.

My next step is to ask you to remove the HDD and RAM. How comfortable are you trying to do this?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I don't know what they aren't?
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
What is the HDD and RAM?

I can walk you through it. All it requires is a Philips screwdriver and to remove 4 screws. The HDD and RAM are located under the laptop. Just flip over the laptop and find a compartment where there's four screws.

Click on the image to get an idea of what your looking for.

If you don't feel sure about doing this then we don't have to.

Please let me know.

Still there?

Hello?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I lost you
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I'm back

I was just asking if you don't feel sure about doing this then we don't have to.

Please let me know.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I am not comfortable doing this

Ok. We won't try to open the laptop for the HDD and RAM.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Do I still stay with you?

Well, here's what's probably happening here to your laptop.

You say it lights up but doesn't turn on. This could be the laptop is actually powering on but your screen is not working. So it's hard to tell if your screen is at fault here. This is why I asked if you had a desktop computer monitor to use to connect it to your laptop. I wanted to see if you get picture on the monitor screen.

Second issue here also could be a memory / RAM issue. I wanted you to try to open the bottom of your laptop to reset the memory. The memory could be causing your screen not to show up. And finally, if all this didn't work, then there's the motherboard which could be at fault here.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
How do I reset the memory?

All it requires is a Philips screwdriver and to remove 4 screws. The HDD and RAM are located under the laptop. Just flip over the laptop and find a compartment where there's four screws.

Looking for a small set
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Found a smal Philips do I unplug the lap top?

Yes please. Power it off.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
That's the plug at the side?

Yes. Pull the battery out too!

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok battery out and unpluged
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Having difficulty unscrewing hold on
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Do th screws come out or stay in place?

Could be both. If they don't come out then loosen them and try to open the compartment.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok back off now what

Good job.

Now the memory sticks are located right in front of you. There should be at least 1 or 2 small memory sticks installed in two slots. How many do you have?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
LabledDMM1 and DMM 2 is that what we are looking for?

Yes. How many stick do you see there?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
There are two DMM1 and DMM 2

So two sticks of memory. Try to remove one and leave one.

Once done, try powering on your laptop to see what happens.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
One is flipped up. Now is it safe to power up without anything else? So just plug is at the side?

Wait, don't leave it flipped up. Remove it from the slot.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok do I put the back cover on?

No. Just be careful and flip the laptop over when trying to power it on.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Still light on on power button but no screen

Ok.

Next try removing the other memory stick but this time place it in the other slot. Then try powering on your computer.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Same results

Alright.

Put the sticks back where they were and close up the compartment.

The last thing to check on is the screen but you claim you don't have an external monitor with you, right?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
In the riginal slots?

Yes. It doesn't matter where.

The last thing to check on is the screen but you claim you don't have an external monitor with you, right?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Back on secure and I don't have an external monitor
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Should I try turning it on?

Try and see what happens.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Same results no screen
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Now what?

If you had an external monitor, it would help determine whether or not your computer has a screen issue.

And, if all this didn't work, then there's the motherboard which could be at fault here. The motherboard might be receiving power and powers on but nothing else is working or communicating for it to function. In this case, the motherboard needs to be fixed / replaced for this issue to be resolved.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I should take it into a repair shop?

I recommend a local tech shop. Perhaps they can do the external monitor test to see if your screen is working or not. From there, they can quote you on price for a motherboard replacement too. Do you happen to have any tech shops around your area?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
in Hamilton Ontario Canada

Good. Pay them a visit and let them check on your laptop. They will tell you what the end result will be.

Alright!

Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Tanks for your assistance and time. Good bye
Kathy

Glad I could help.

Before you leave, could you please leave a rating on this service / ticket so that I may be able to close it?

Thanks!

Also, great job in opening the laptop compartment on your end.
