I have bluetooth paired a new logitech x300 speaker to my pc

Customer Question

Hi there. I have bluetooth paired a new logitech x300 speaker to my pc running windows 7. It appears on the devices area. Logitech says it has no drivers, but my computer is having issues with not being able to install a driver. Then when I try to have it appear in my sounds area, it won't appear, so although it is paired, my computer doesnt register it as a speaker. Can you please help?

Hello, and Thank You for choosing JustAnswer.com

We would have to do a remote session for me to be able to troubleshoot on your computer, and diagnose, and then potentially fix the issue.

Theres just no way i could go through the troubleshooting and having to describe each and every step....it woudl take literally hours and hours.

Not too mention any mistakes made would need to be fixed.

So....i can help but only in a remote session....its completely secure, and encrypted.

Let me know when your ready to continue.

Hey there, sure thing. I just installed an updated generic driver and it's closer! No cigar though, so...
Customer: replied 19 days ago.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

is the Bluetooth BUIULT-in to the computer, or is it a USB dongle?

are you using a laptop or a desktop?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
sorry - do I need to pay an additional $41 for your support on top of the existing support that I paid for???? (that's a bit disappointing...). I respect what you do, however...
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

remote session is an additional charge....but we dont have to do it.

Using a Macbook Air (laptop) with Windows 7 - the bluetooth is built in
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

What now?

MacBook with Windows 7?

Hows that? Are you running a virtual machine?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Ok - thanks on the remote thing. I'm reasonably tech savvy - I managed to half fix the issue while I was waiting....
Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Yep - Mac with windows - it's a thing
Customer: replied 19 days ago.
No on virtual - you can now install windows onto a mac. Mac hardware, windows software
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Well, thats why your having trouble.

Windows on a mac, YOu cant expect that to work perfectly

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

I mean who makes the driver for the Mac hardware to work on windows OS?

Thast like......you need software vendors to make a whole new set of hardware drivers

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Worked so far - had it for 2 years! :)So, when I go to the device manager, when I did the generic bluetooth device upgrade, I was able to bring up a menu for services when I right click the logitech icon. That's super cool, and it gives me the option to click to listen to music and to forward VOIP calls to handsfree.
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Well, what is the Bluetooth chip?

does it show up in the device manager? the bluetooth chip?

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

So the bluetooth has been working.....but its this NEW speaker that wont show up in the PlayBack devices, as a bluetooth device?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Bluetooth Radio? That has Apple Boradcom Built In bluetooth and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. And yes on the above. I run a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Correct - The problem is that it doesnt show in the playback devices
Customer: replied 19 days ago.
On the services I can see "Listen to music" as an option, but when I click it, it does nothing. When I click the Forward to VOIP it used to say connection issue... now (after a restart) it's doing the same as the Listen to Music link - nothing
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Well this SPeaker is Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, which only came out in 2007

If yoru bluetooth chip on the mac hardware was manufactured BEFORE 2007.....it may not work properly

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

keyboards and mice work because they are OLDER bluetooth technology, to work on ALL computers.

Speakers especially the newer ones.....arent so friendly

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
OK - update! I have "bluetooth headphones" and "bluetooth headset" in my playback devices! But... they are diconnected, and when I click connect, it doesnt do anything
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

disconnected means its not paired.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

did you put the speaker in pairing mode?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
How can it not be paired? If it wasn't paired, it wouldnt appear as installed in the devices menu???
Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Of course!
Customer: replied 19 days ago.
It's paired. But I might repair it now that I've updated the bluetooth drivers
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

you should power off the speaker.

THen power it back on , and try the pair and connect again.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Basically remove it form the computer and add it back in

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Already done - multiple times. I've worked in IT - I know the trick of turning off and on, and restarting. Thanks though
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Oh i forgot....my magic wand back at home.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

bluetooth devices WILL show up in the playback devices EVEN when not paired.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

see the link.

circled in yellow is my bluetooth headset......its turned off.....and not paired.

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
Ok. As you said, it is late where you are - perhaps, given I'm so close, I will find my solution myself. Thank you for your help, but I'm sure I will work it out eventually.
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 19 days ago.

Peace!
