I have a 64gb flash drive. I can copy and paste movies in

Customer Question

I have a 64gb flash drive. I can copy and paste movies in mkv, avi or mp4 and the first 5 or 6 that I copy over will play with no problem, either on my laptop, using VLC media player, on a little media player device connected to a TV. The flash drive will continue accept more movies, but I can not play them. I've reformatted the flash drive to different formats NTSF and exFAT, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Another thing I've done is copy the movies in a different order after reformatting the flash drive, so the movies that wouldn't play before would now play, but just the first 5 or 6 movies. when I click on properties the file show their correct amount, i.e. 62.4 GB for the flash drive and then the value of whatever the movie file is, whether there able to play or not. Ant suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Michael.

Okay so what's happening when you delete all the movies from flash drive which you can play and free that space up. After doing that are you able to play those movies which were not opening earlier ?

Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Which companies flash drive do you have ?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I deleted the ones that works. The ones that weren't playing still aren't playing. The flash drives are a no name brand from China.
Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Okay. What is the file format for them

Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Where you are trying to play them and using which media player ? Is it VLC ?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
for the movies AVI MKV MP4 the flash drive is set NTFS allocation unit size 4096 bytes
Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Also tell me your USB's disk format

Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
The flash drive doesn't give me that option. it just offers exFAX and NTSF to format to.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.

Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Did you try copying them to your laptop and see if you can play it ?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
How can I do that
Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

First try playing it after moving it to your laptop. Use VLC player to open it.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
The movies play from an exterior hard drive I can place them on my laptop they fine.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I can place them on other flash drives they play fine its just these 64gb that I'm having this issue
Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

ok so it seems to be compatibility issue. Try changing movies format to some other format which is working on your 64GB Flash Drive using : http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

Also compare the details of both the video files and try to find out difference in it.

the MKV AVI and MP4 work on the 64gb flash drive. its just after approx. 6gb worth of movie files the added after that don't play
Expert:  Bhavik Joshi replied 11 months ago.

Then it seems to be the limitation of Flash drive.
