I'm doing my first computer build in many years and i have everything pretty much done, just fitting the power cables from the power supply into there respective slots. For some reason i can not find where the 8 pin cpu plug for my psu inserts on my motherboard. my mother board is a asus M5A78L-MUSB3 and my power supply is a 500w evga 100w-w1-0500-kr.

As a system builder I am very familiar with these type of issues, its the old saying, "you build it and there is always 1 screw left over"

I found this picture of your MB. And it looks like it requires a 4 pin connection.

if you look near the cpu, on one of the corners, the light blue square, what looks to be near a bunch of capacitors.

I did not see your PSU, but most of the 8 pin connectors snap in 2, 4 pin connectors, you will need to do that, and make sure you use the right 4 pin connector, only one of the 2 should fit.
