Hi, welcome and thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I am glad to assist you today.

Thank you for writing back with that information. In the BIOS settings, can you please tell me if the hard disk drive is detected and listed there?

Please let me know by replying to me here so that I can help you further.

Best regards,
Jess

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it is.
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Hi, thank you for writing back with that information.

You mentioned that you are trying to load the OS in that brand new HD, what is your installation source? Are you using a Windows 7 installation DVD?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Can you please tell me the exact label you see on that DVD?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There is no label. It was given to me but it reads the .exe on my laptop.
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Oh ok. I believe that DVD is NOT a bootable disc. That is, you cannot start the computer on that DVD.

When you open the contents of that DVD in another computer, can you please tell me what its contents are?

If you can open or view the contents of that DVD in the computer that you are using now please capture a screen shot of its contents so that I can tell you if that is a bootable disc or not.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It wont let me screen shot but the following are on the disc.BOOT
EFI
SOURCES
SUPPORT
UPGRADE
AUTORUN
BOOTMGR
SETUP
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, have you tried to boot another computer to that DVD? I mean, use another computer, load the DVD, turn on the computer and go to the bios, then set it to boot at DVD first, then restart the computer. Please test if that other computer boots to the DVD.

This is to test if the DVD is bootable.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Also it will boot from the DVD on my laptop
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

So another computer can boot into that DVD?

If yes, please check the BIOS of the Dell desktop. In the Boot Order, what is the first boot device?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it will boot on my laptop. The 1st boot device is Internal ODD Device. It is showing in parenthesis. It says that it is disabled in the corresponding type menu.
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Can you please take a picture of the Boot Order or Boot Sequence screen on your BIOS?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
working on it
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Thank you.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
this is going to take forever. is there another way to get you the info?
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, when you are in the Boot Sequence or Boot Order menu on the BIOS, please tell me the bootable options.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The list goes as follows.1st boot Internal ODD
2nd boot USB storage
3rd boot Internal HDD
4th boot USB Floppy
5th boot onboard NICALL of them are showing disabled
Expert:  Jess M. replied 1 year ago.

That is what I want to see, what you meant to be shown as DISABLED.

In the Main or Information or General tab (depends on the BIOS version), do you see that these devices are listed and enabled?

Also, can you take a picture of that screen where you mentioned that they are shown as disabled?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, I do not see them in the main tab.Taking a pic from my phone and getting it to here is a pain. I can type it out as to what it looks like.this is from the BOOT tab in the BIOS screen.1st Boot Device [Internal ODD Device......] Specifies the boot sequence from the available
2nd Boot Device [USB Storage Device....] devices. A device enclosed in parenthesis has
3rd Boot Device [Internal HDD Device...] been disabled in the corresponding type menu
4th Boot Device [USB Floppy Device...]
5th Boot Device [Onboard NIC Device...]
