I have a 750 Maxtor Onetouch 4 external hard drive. My laptop

I have a 750 Maxtor Onetouch 4 external hard drive. My laptop will no longer recognize it. The blue light on the front is flashing, but that's all it does. Can the files on it be retrieved?

 



Already Tried:
hours of unplugging the drive, updating all drivers on my computer, buying a new power cord,

Hi there and welcome

Sometimes Windows loses the drive letter for the device.

Can you click start, right click computer and select manage

Choose Disk management and see if the drive is listed there. If so please right click it and assign a drive letter. It will then be available.

If it is not listed, please let me know.

Can you disconnect the drive from the computer

Then please download and run this program

Then restart the computer, connect the drive and see if it is detected.

If not, can you remove the power to the drive (leaving the USB connected).

Then wait 1 minute and reconnect the power and see if it is detected.

If it is not, please let me know

ok, then the hard disk enclosure is failing.

99% of the time the hard disk is ok, it is the enclosure that faults.

My advice is to take it into a computer repair store and have them disassemble the hard disk and backup the data off it (they will be able to do this).

They will also be able to put the disk in a working enclosure.

I am really sorry that you need to do this, but there is no other way to solve this.

I am aware this is not the results you would like, and emphasis with you.

If there was a way to get this working to avoid repairing it, I would happily tell you.
