nick821702 :

So you are using windows 7. Which dell laptop are you using?

And are you using an USB mouse or the touchpad on your laptop?

Customer:

Dell with logitech mouse

nick821702 :

Customer:

I cant move cursor with mouse or touchpad-- the arrow is in the middle of screen and I cant move. I am using another laptop noe

nick821702 :

can you type or press Ctrl + Alt + Del?

nick821702 :

just want to check if the laptop is really frozen

Customer:

yes and get to log off screen but still cant move cursor

nick821702 :

hmmm

nick821702 :

log off screen you choose restart

nick821702 :

restart to see if it is still the same for the mouse

Customer:

I was trying to install kapersky upgrade when it first happened. I have restarted several times with no luck

nick821702 :

if the mouse still doesn't work

nick821702 :

can you unplug the mouse and see if you can use dell laptop touchpad

nick821702 :

?

Customer:

yes tried that -- the touch pad does not work.

nick821702 :

so when did that happened?

Customer:

today right before cursor froze

nick821702 :

so from the keyboard

nick821702 :

hit windows key

nick821702 :

if the cursor is blinking at search programs and files

nick821702 :

type in "system restore"

Customer:

where is that located

nick821702 :

did you hit the windows key?

nick821702 :

or hold Ctrl and hit Esc

nick821702 :

hit Tab key on the keyboard until the blinking cursor is at Search programs and files

Customer:

ok done

nick821702 :

type in system restore

nick821702 :

then you should see it on the top menu

nick821702 :

use the up and down arrow to choose system restore

nick821702 :

if it is the only one, hit Enter key

nick821702 :

then Tab keys until it is at Next and hit space key

Customer:

system restore has 12 flags on control panel--which pick

Customer:

should I try to restore from yesterday

nick821702 :

does it show any like this week like Monday or Tuesday?

Customer:

no it says an earlier time

nick821702 :

how many on the list do you see?

nick821702 :

just yesterday and show more restore points at the bottom?

Customer:

Customer:

I cant move down the list with tab

nick821702 :

choose yesterday and restart when it asks

nick821702 :

how is it going?

Customer:

There is not an option for yesterday. I am not getting anywhere

nick821702 :

so are you still at system restore?

nick821702 :

what dates do you see?

nick821702 :

you can hit Tab key like 3-4 times to get to a date

nick821702 :

then use up or down keys to choose the date closet to today or yesterday

nick821702 :

after that hit Tab keys 3-4 times until it points at next and hit space

nick821702 :

Then hit Tab key 3-4 times until it points at Finish and hit space to restore

Customer:

System is trying to restore. It asks how do I choose a restore point how can i choose that

nick821702 :

use the Tab key on your keyboard

nick821702 :

click it until you see it moves to a date

nick821702 :

on the list

Customer:

It is looking for affected programs It says all programs will be deleted since 12/13/2011 will be deleted Icant scroll down to see entire list. My only option at the bottom is close

nick821702 :

did you install anything after 12/13?

nick821702 :

unfortunately you can't move the bar

nick821702 :

if you didn't install anything recently except for the update then you are fine.

Customer:

I was trying to do kapersky antivirus, also long list of microsoft and adobe

nick821702 :

Then you might have to reinstall it

nick821702 :

how about this

nick821702 :

try to go to safe mode

nick821702 :

do you know how to go to safe mode?

Customer:

I hit close and now it says "systen restore cannot be interrupted, do you want to continue"

Customer:

It is now restoring

nick821702 :

You could not cancel?

Customer:

I chose not to It is now resoring

nick821702 :

Well

nick821702 :

Let's see if the mouse works first

Customer:

I have no idea how long it will take

nick821702 :

it takes about 10-15 minutes

nick821702 :

unless you have many programs installed

nick821702 :

it might take up to 20-30 minutes

nick821702 :

I will be right back

Customer:

I will get back to you then

Customer:

system restore was not completed --an error occurred-- however mouse is working. It wants me to install latest Kapersky antivirus--not sure I want to

nick821702 :

so mouse worked?

nick821702 :

how about touchpad?

Customer:

dont want to try it--I an happy with mouse

nick821702 :

Great!

nick821702 :

How about the other programs

nick821702 :

Can you check to see they are working

Customer:

Like what

nick821702 :

like Adobe softwares that you installed

nick821702 :

Sometimes eventhough System Restore says it did not complete, it does change some settings back. Happened to my place all the time.

Customer:

I akready asked me if I wanted to update and I said contact me later. I may update if I need to at some future time

nick821702 :
