What is the correct way to adjust the escapement on a Mauthe

What is the correct way to adjust the escapement on a Mauthe W500 movement. The pawl is held to the shaft with a set screw and there are elongated adjusting slots held by mounting screws to the back plate.
I am having a heck of a time getting the pendulum in beat.
