An Elgin gold watch: inscription: Flora L. Gay Sept. 14" 1891. Fahys Monarch #1 543978, the same serial number is XXXXX on both sides
Already Tried: Never had it appraised
Hi! My name is XXXXX XXXXX it is my pleasure to assist you. This should be an Elgin 1891model. I posted pictures of a similar watch below. Fahys Monarch #1 The number 543978 is the cases serial number if you are able to open the back of the watch to expose the inner workings there should be a serial number of the movement that will allow me to date your watch. The back should either unscrew or pry off. Also I need to know if it says 10K, or 14K for solid gold or if it reads gold filled or rolled gold the case may also read 10 or 20 year case. I also need to know what condition the watch is in plus is it running? With this information I will be able to give you an accurate age and value of your watch. Thanks Mike
This is just an example of what the inner workings looks like with the serial number and number of jewels.
