you arent worried about the negative side of the battery as far as the starter relay....... nothing from the negative battery goes to the relay. the negative cable goes to the engine.

The negative cable doesn't go on the relay at all. The small terminal marked S is for power from the key when it's in the start position. I'll make a drawing below that should help.

You should have only positive wires on the relay, it grounds through the bolts that hold it on the fender.
As for the negative from the battery you can connect it to the frame or the starter mounting bolt. You also want a ground from the engine to the body sheet metal. I usually use an intake bolt and then run it to the firewall.
If you do that and then wire up the relay like this you should be good to go.
