The round part in the front is called a dash pot to keep the idle from dropping to fast. The other longer switch is either a throttle stop switch or a kick down switch. Do you know what the circuit it that ties into it is?

The picture enclosed in the link below is not real good but Buick is calling it a throttle stop solenoid.
