I'm trying to make sure we are purchasing a numbers matching 1969 GTO.. We were told the engine and trans number match the last few numbers from the VIN. Is that correct.

Tha'ts correct, it's stamped on a pad on the passenger side front of the block and will be formatted like below.

  • 123456
    WS
    22P100001
  • 123456 -Engine Production Number
    (No correlation to the Vehicle VIN)
  • WS -Engine Code
  • 22P100001 -Engine VIN Code
    added late 1967. (2=Pontiac, 2=Model Year, P=Pontiac Assembly Plant, 100001=Last six numbers of the car VIN)
