I am trying to remove the oil pan from a 1970 corvette, but it looks like the steering linkage is in the way.Does the steering linkage need to be removed?

yes, but you only need to disconnect the center link at the pitman arm at the steering box. once you dis connect that, the linkage will drop and give you enough room to remove the pan.
