Customer Question

Hi Lou, this is Tom with that 1977 El Camino you helped me with. Next question. Would you know which AIR system the 1977 uses? Is it tubes to the manifolds or direct into the catalytic converter. Thank you.

Hey Tom sorry took so long to get back with you. for that year it is in the top of each manifold. hope this helps.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

When did it change from straight into the cat? I know in 1976 it was cat based. Thanks

Expert:  Lou P. replied 1 year ago.

That i cannot answer, i believe also it mattered if it was california or federal emissions

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

California

Expert:  Lou P. replied 1 year ago.

Then i believe that it should have had manifold tubes and also a convertor tube

Expert:  Lou P. replied 1 year ago.

ill see if i can find some hard evidence

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

That would be great. If you could maybe send a pic of the pump mount and hoses?

Expert:  Lou P. replied 1 year ago.

ILL see what i can do

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Great. Thank you

Expert:  Lou P. replied 1 year ago.

So far you are right. All I can find is that the pump goes to the converter. I will opt out and see if another expert knows off the top what type it used. If I find something I will come back to you. I won't give up. But I figure the note experts they can see your question the better chances you have at getting a answer. So please don't respond or it will lock you back to me and others won't see your post. Lou P.

Let me see what I can do for you, which engine is in the el camino

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Hello, it is a 350

Expert:  Joseph Book replied 1 year ago.

I found the diagram that is associated with the engine you have, it is routed to the passenger side exhaust manifold on your vehicle.

Expert:  Joseph Book replied 1 year ago.

I hope that helps

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

The diagrams you show are strictly vacuum diagrams. They do not show any output from the smog pump.

Expert:  Joseph Book replied 1 year ago.

The efe valve is located on the exhaust manifold. On the passenger side of the engine.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I'm sorry Joseph but you are not answering my question.

Expert:  Joseph Book replied 1 year ago.

On your specific year and model it shows the air pump is returning to the passenger exhaust manifold, it looks like on cal emissions it changed to this in 77. From what I can see. Pulled some parts lists and they show the same.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

So there is no AIR pumped into the driver's side exhaust manifold?

Expert:  Joseph Book replied 1 year ago.

From what I see only on the passenger side, but I can opt out and we can see if another expert has more information.

Expert:  Joe Barfield replied 1 year ago.

Hello yes it had tubes in both manifolds with cross over hose from the pump Thanks Joey you check to see if www.obsoleatchevrolet.com has those parts

Expert:  Joe Barfield replied 1 year ago.
