I have a 1946 Ford Delivery Truck with a flathead engine that is frozen up. What more modern engine will fit in the engine compartment without cutting into the fender wells or firewall.

The Ford 302 would be my choice. It is a very narrow V8, it is reliable, powerful, and cheap to build. I have seen adapters that bolt to a V8 Chevy and allow it to bolt to the transmission, but the starter, and flywheel can be a challenge. The problem with the Chevy is it's wider, and the factory transmission has trouble with the power modern V8 engines produce. The Ford 302, or 289, with a C4 automatic transmission would be a good choice. If you have any more questions, as always, I am here to help. Good luck with it, have a great day, and Thanks for using Just Answer.I hope this helps, 100% satisfaction is my goal. Myself personally, and Just Answer are here to serve you.
